Does anyone have experience with these http://www.knbsupply.com/insisy.html

I have a 5.0l Merc EFI with Thru Hull Exhaust and the novelty has worn off after only 3 trips. This would be an easy and inexpensive fix for me if they are effective.

Is there any downside to using them?

Any other option to quiet this thing down a bit?

Well my experience is that I called the number on the web page today and got "Hi this Dan, leave a message and I will get back with you", but when you hit the option to do that it says he can't receive messages. Also I left e-mail and no answer, so he must have gone out or somthing. It is a Cleveland, OH., number but he can not be selling much stuff on the net ;-) A shame because I too would like my boat to go quietly theu the water. Anyone else have a solution ????

Those are almost exactly the same design & principle as ones used on 4 stroke dirt bikes, commonly called a "butt plug". They do knock the sound level down, but at the expense of power/performance. I've yet to see one that was left on a bike.

In the K&B clip, you can see why, the 3" OD is reduced to ~1?", so it's the increased back pressure doing the silencing.

Here's some other options, go down to "Silencers";

I went with these. Slid them in last week. Put them in the hose instead of splicing them in that way I can always slide them out if I am not happy with them. Have not run the boat since installation. I am not expecting miracles. I'll let you know how they work out.

I took the boat out today and I am very happy with the results of the in-tube silencers. I would estimate that it reduced the sound by 40% or so both at idle and at cruise. I could actually carry on a conversation where as before I could not.

I could not open up the boat all the way because of a rough lake but out f the hole I did not notice any loss in performance.
