The commercial tour here in Rochester (looks like a paddle wheeler) is about 90 feet long and they launch it without a trailer, directly from shore to water by laying down a bed of ...
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
BANANAS !!!

A whole truckload. Slides right into the river from it's cradle.

Not grease but 2 plastic tarps.1 stays in place on the ground and the other slides on it with the boat.

I can't speak to a boat but I can speak to U.S. Naval ships like nuclear powered aircraft carriers. I used to work at Newport News Shipbuilding and they used bear grease on the skids the hull rested on. Come time for launch they greased the skids, pulled the chocks and slid the hull out into the James river.
