ive looked all over the internet trying to find out how to weave a small net, and youd be suprised how little information there is on the subject, and what information there is, is very misleading and hard to understand.

basically what im wanting to do, is make a small shrimp trawl.
about 6 feet across the mouth, i want it this small so on a fishing trip i can toss it out the boat, trawl around for a minute and pick up some shrimp to fish with.

ive got a large 25 foot trawl, but its too big for what im wanting to do, and the price of a small bait trawl on ebay, is OUTRAGOUS! and you will never get any help from a net shop, i tried, they want to sell you a net, not tell you how to make them.

someone, anyone, somebody out there still has to know how to weave these nets, please help me!

Well, I wish I'd paid more attention to my uncles when I was a kid. They fished commercially part-time and would spend hours weaving nets when they were off from work. They used a home-made device they called a net needle that formed the mesh size and held it while they tied the knot. The twine was wrapped around a cut out needle in the center of the device. Unfortunately, that's all I remember except that there wasn't any TV to watch back then, so watching them make nets was as good an entertainment as there was. Like most others, I buy nets and use an 8' trawl for bait. Try the Nylon Net Company on the internet.

You start off by the size you intend to use. Run several lines down from a wall mounted 2x4 about the width you want. measure down two strands the length you want (we will call these strand 1 and 2)this will be the first part of your "diamond" tie the two strands together. Move over and take the next two strands( 3 and 4) and repeat across. Then take #2 & #3 and measure down the same distance as above. Tie them together, then #4 & 5,... 6 & 7 you see the pattern? VVVVVVVV
