I have read in a couple of posts that by using the Johnson "Engine Tuner" or Quicksilver "Power Tune" will clog the recirculation valves in my 1995 Johnson 200 Ocean Runner. If so, shouldn't they call it "Engine de-tuner"?
I have never cleaned my recirculation valves. All of my plugs look the same. I have used the de-carb products several times before.
I have eliminated the VRO and have been using an electric pump mounted near the 65 gallon tank, with a Holly low pressure regulator along with a pressure gauge both mounted where the VRO used to be. I have the pressure set to 3.5 psi, and it has been working great for almost a year now.
I am about to switch from Johnson oil pre-mixed at 50:1, to Pensoil marine full synthetic TCW3 mixed at 50:1.
Question 1: Does decarbing clog the recirculation valves?
Question 2: Can I add 50 gallons of pre-mixed synthetic to 15 gallons of dino fuel without any reprocutions? (I have read all of the previous posts, but the dip-wad at West Marine Products said that it was like mixing oil and vinegar)
Question 3: Should I switch to the synthetic and run for a while before decarbing?
Question 4: The Clymer manual says that the fuel pressure should be 1.5 @ 800 rpm, 2.0 @ 1500, and 2.5 @ 2500 rpm or something like that, and the Johnson manual just says that the fuel pressure should be 3.0 psi minimum. If you were setting up an electric pump, and you can only choose one pressure, what would it be? (replies from experienced professionals only)
Question 5: Should I just switch to the synthetic and not de-carb and let the synthetic clean up the system?
Thanks, the Dawg
