If your pee tube is plumbed from Tstat outlet it is normal as flow will only start when temp is reached and tstats open. Also stick wire up pee tube while running as they often get blocked.
I dont understand the trailer bit,the leg needs to be fully submerged for water pump to work properly.

i had the boat running and saw the water coming out of the tube but shut the boat off for about 30 min then it was not coming out would the tstat reset that quick? it seemed a little warm to the touch around the exhaust vent but it only ran about a few minutes while i put it on the trailer.

Re: does it pee out the tube immediatly?

If the motor is a late 80's modal it should start peeing fairly quick as the pee tube on 87 an newer comes off the exhaust jacket before the stat. and should have pressure as soon as the pump is primed. The motor has to have water a few inches above the cavition plate to get the pump to prime good. Sticking a weed eater string up the pee hole several inches and then using a air gun to blow back thru the pee hole should clear all the blockage if any. If the PO was always starting the motor on the trailor and not deep enought in the water the water pump impeller might need to be replaced. They should be replaced every 3 years as the vains will take a set and not work as intended if stored over a time of a few months. If you can not hold your fingers on the head cover of motor for a minute the pump is not working and will need to be looked at.JMO

My '88 100 hp begins peeing between 5 and 10 seconds of starting. I assume it takes the water that long to be pushed to the top of the motor and out.

Re: does it pee out the tube immediatly?

My '77 Merc 500 is on year 2 of a new impeller/cup/wear plate. On initial start it does not pee at a low idle at first, if I raise the idle even for a few seconds, it pees good. If I start it on a low idle and never rev it, it takes a few seconds and like a guy with an old prostrate, gives a weak stream. It seems as though once you get a good pee going, it stays as a strong stream, I think it needs to push up thru and purge the air first. My motor has no thermostat.

BTW, when I got this motor the impeller had been in there for almost 30 years, the last 13 years of that it sat parked! It was deformed but had no cracks in it.

is that motor an inline six? If so, there is likely no thermostat, and the telltale should start as soon as the block fills. I woudl expect to see water at the telltale 20 seconds after start.

Chris, I searched my manual for telltale and Teltale, no results. Is the telltale when waters coming out of the 2 exhaust ports in the intermediate housing, just under the power head at the back?

The telltale is at the rear STBD side just under the cowling. Take the cover off, you can see the hose from inside.

Ah! On my ol stringer, the telltale was to show a problem with the cooling system if it was spraying water! Lol sorry!

Is your '88 a 4 or 6 cyl? Reason for the question is I had a 115 tower I bought in '89 new and registered it as that year, but guys on here said that '88 was the last year for the 115 tower. Just curious. Course if a 4 it did have a stat, which the tower didn't but the pee was plumbed off the exhaust manifold so as far as timing pee had nothing to do with it.

Thanks,
Mark
