For builders that still use wood the list would be shorter for those that don't use PT than those that do.

Sounds like it would be a short list... how about posting it for us?

This a very popular product on the west coast because it's made in Oregon. And I will be at there location tomorrow to discuss a different type of coating for plywood.

Every marine customer I have that uses wood uses this product, there are other brands though.

I may need to list it a different way, that retail supplier appears to be blocked.

Let's put it this way. In the last 6 years every boat builder that I visit that still uses wood used this type of product. Just working from my phone on this trip so its a hassle to do much typing.

I'll try to come up with some kind of a list, buts it's not the type of Info we publish about our customers without their approval.

Read my post directly below it, it says the link is blocked by this site. That's why I linked another very popular product similar to it.

I have Verified the use of the KDAT in boat builds.

Its not the same as the PT ply that you normally think of though.

Good ply IMHO for building below deck structures. Too bad you cant get it at your local wood supply store.

Point taken.

However it still does not answer the OP's question.

Glass underside or not to glass .. that is the question right ?

I guess it would depend on the ply that you buy. Make sure its Dry.

Foam filled compartments getting wet to the point where you would have a problem with a resin coated ply on deck would mean you have other problems aside from the deck getting wet on the underside. Your wet foam would have to be replaced .. AGAIN ..

Dont let your foam filled compartments get wet or saturated is the bottom line.

Dont start blasting holes with screws in your deck thinking the core will not rot just because you have some uber ply in there.

Foam does not like standing water .. wood does not like standing water. Your boat likes itself to be Dry period.

Again ... if its a deck hatch .. glass and coat it. If its a floor board panel in the cabin then you could use a good coating to preserve the wood. If its a foam filled compartment under the waterline and you think water will get to that area .. then your boned no matter what.

So yes and no to your question. You can glass it all in if you think the water might get in there. It would keep your plywood dry but you would still have to cut into it to get the wet foam out. After that you would have a hard time resealing the deck on the bottom side unless you cut exactly on the stringer/bulks for future beading.

Hope this helps the thread :) .

There are many articles about the benefits of glassing under the deck (cored). Whether or not the mfg decided to core the deck or not (be it economics, logistics, bar room napkin designs, or just Friday builds), it still seems prudent, imo, to rebuild it as strong as possible. Besides the benefit of moisture protection, there are strength benefits also.

It's 100% guaranteed that any enclosed space that has air space and undergoes temperature changes will produce moisture due to condensation. Protecting the Underside of your boat deck, for me, is a "No Brainer", but...As everybody knows here on the forum, I'm just an
