Does size matter?

Is a 5hp motor too small to use on a fourteen foot fiberglass boat that weighs about 300 pounds and used on a lake? The debate is over whether or not it would be better to buy a new 5Hp or a used 15hp. Personally, I believe it is always better to have more and not need it. But is that worth sacrificing dependability? So, what do you think?

It is doubtful whether a 5HP would plane a 14' 'glass boat. I would go for the 15.

Good luck. :)

Any current 5HP motor will be a single cylinder model, which means it will be louder and vibrate much more than a 2 cylinder. Although some brands are a little better than others, these small motors aren't nearly as nice to use as the larger ones.
