Does Speed Kill?

I am the happy owner of a 24'walkaround CC with twin 1995 Johnny 150's. At WOT and spinning around 5800-6000 turns it moves along nicely at 48-52 Mph. My question is does running at this speed for extended periods harm the engines?

I live in Florida off the Gulf of Mexico and it's often calm and a 20-30 mile sprint is not out of the question. Is this OK?

In my opinion, the engine will last longer if run at WOT only for brief periods. Normal operation should be at about 70% of WOT. A check with the manufacturer or the owner's manual would provide the most accurate information.

You will find you run alot more efficiently at lower rpm.could save you as much as 40% on fuel running at your boats sweet spot... probably somewhwere between3500-4000 rpm as far as your speed goes, just use common sense, 52 mph in 3 foot waves not a good idea.

Jim
