First off I'm certainly no expert in this field but a good S.S. prop will give you a definite edge over a stock aluminum one. The downside is the dreaded prop strike. Hitting something with an aluminum wheel will cause less damage to your lower unit than striking it with S.S. The aluminum will break or bend a whole lot easier than the steel will, so the internal gears will more than likely take a lot less of the force.
It's just a matter of a few M.P.H. or a lower unit replacement. I swing a S.S. wheel on my Pursuit but I know my waterway and environs. Of course there is always the chance of hitting something you can't see.
It is just a matter of choice.
