I'm back on the market (again) looking for my next boat (3rd). After having owned 2 boats already and incurring lots of experience on the water, I have developed an extensive list of "wants" for my next boat. Unfortunately, I do not know if such a boat even exists. Here is the list:

  • 20-25 ft. long
  • Outboard
  • Center console OR Cuddy
  • Easy bow access
  • Must be stable (and not list when 2 men stand on the same side.)
  • Do not pound.
  • Provide a dry ride.
  • Closed transom (NO cutout)
  • Must hit at least 30 mph/34 kts
  • Trailerable

Does anyone know of a model that actually fits all that criteria?

I learned really quick that big bayliners/sea rays require a circus acrobat to reach the bowlines. I also had a deep-vee hull that would list badly just by putting 2 batteries on the same side of the keel. It also had a I/O motor which was a ROYAL pain. Too many parts to potentially break.

I have a 23' Wellcraft CC that meets your specs. There are plenty of others.

Many walk arounds or Center Consoles would meet your criteria with the exception of:

•20-25 ft. long

AND

•Must be stable (and not list when 2 men stand on the same side.)

That's just pure physics. You'll never find a boat 20-25 that doesn't list when weight is distributed. This is why they invented trim tabs.

My "real" answer is, 'Yes the perfect boat exists.....it's the one the "other guy" has'.

Now, having gotten that off my chest, maybe I've been in boats for far TOO long, but I think your stated criteria isn't that much of a stretch. Most Walkarounds, imho, fit the bill nicely I think. Heck, my little 1802 Trophy hits all cylinders excet the 20-24' part so I'm sure and larger version of it would work. Have you looked at the true walkarounds.

It is called a starcraft! Get one and welcome yourself to the starmada!!! We are almost a cult. Mine is a 19.6 superfisherman very stable, deep v so no pounding, easy bow access, not a cuddy or center console but those are available.

The perfect boat? It's called a catamaran. They are available in CC and walk around cuddy versions in your size.

A few brands that come to mind are Glacier Bay, World Cat, Twin Vee boats, and Splendor boats.

Any of those have models that could meet all of your requirements.

Get out of that darn V hull and get in a CAT! ;)

Bought my first Cat in '96(still have it) and wouldn't have a V hull ever again.

Boat Test.com has tests of various Cat hulls. Check it out.

This meets all the criteria. 26-ft-express.jpg The Twin Vee 26ft Express.

I can stick a picture of my Cat in there if it'll make you happy. :)

I had a V hull Velocity also. It sucked for stability, but it went 91.4 mph. I sold it recently.

Does the perfect boat even exist?

no, not any more than a perfect mate exists, or a perfect car, etc.

in many cases, you can get close, and modify to fit.
