Re: Does the perfect boat even exist?

I think a guy needs like 2 or 3 boats. In the middle of all that you will find perfection. My wife doesn't see it like that, but what does she know? :D

The perfect boat? It's called a catamaran. They are available in CC and walk around cuddy versions in your size.

A few brands that come to mind are Glacier Bay, World Cat, Twin Vee boats, and Splendor boats.

Any of those have models that could meet all of your requirements.

Get out of that darn V hull and get in a CAT! ;)

Bought my first Cat in '96(still have it) and wouldn't have a V hull ever again.

Boat Test.com has tests of various Cat hulls. Check it out.

This meets all the criteria. View attachment 164935 The Twin Vee 26ft Express.

I will agree with you guys, those are some great boats and very stable IMO. I have fished off of a couple of them in the past do not remember what size it was but in your range that your looking for. Had 4 guys fishing all on the same side and no issues.

BUT, I like the Cobia, it is a larger than normal boat, wide beam, and good hight to keep you dry. I am in the process of getting a 2012 Cobia 206 CC. You would not regret either of those choices (catamaran or Cobia).

No! That's why I have three different ones :) Cats are cool, but not perfect for every situation. Nice and stable though.

Yes, the perfect boat does exist, only until you buy it....then, well, you know....

You see more than a few of these in our neck of the woods.

Or a nice Parker Sport Cabin

Tons of them around as well

How far back do the bunks on the trailers for these boats have to go to support the transom and engine?

And here I thought the perfect boat is whatever boat I happen to be on at the time!

No. You can always figure out something you want to do that it is ill suited for. After 50+ years of boating and who knows how many boats, I have finally learned the lesson.

Dead-on accurate. You know the saying, there's Miss 'Right', and there's Miss 'Right-Now'? Any boat you buy will be perfect 'right now'. By next year, maybe not so much.

Boating 5 seasons, and I'm on my third boat. From a 21' outboard WAC to a 24' I/O express cruiser to a 27' twin-engine express cruiser. I'm always broke, and always still looking around. I'm also nuts.

Re: Does the perfect boat even exist?

Things change and not all ways for the best
when i was doing my homework on boats i was investigating cat hulls
and although i have never been disappointed with the ride
i ran across a bunch of "world cat lemon" threads
listing to world cat and the dealer i wrote it off as just one of those customers they or anyone could just not make happy
i bought a world cat paid big money to have a brand new boat
the thing has been falling apart ever since warranty is not worth the paper it is written on
the wind shield keeps coming loose cracking the fiber glass cracks in the gel coat every where
all i get is excuses from world cat gel coat is one of many things not covered in the warranty
world cat has sense bought out glacier bay Carolina cat and Livingston cat all made in the same factory by the same people
when i took the boat to a top shelf fiberglass shop
they told me the boat was molded in too hot a ambient temperature and or to much hardener was in the gel coat or probably both
when i asked world cat if this was possible they told me "the gel coat was not covered under the warranty"
but if you look at a old world cat 1999 or older no such problems i am sure soon you will see the same things happening with glacier bay boats they just in the last year or two where bought out by world cat
they may be the perfect boat just don’t by a new one or you will be unhappy just like me and quite a few others that bought boat built in tar burrow north Carolina
great boat just dont buy one they will fall apart around you and all you will get from the warrany at world cat is excuses and they they will ready you the warranty papers

Re: Does the perfect boat even exist?

My 21' Starcraft Mariner CC is as close to perfect to me as it gets at this point in my life.

Didn't break the bank, trailers great, up to 9 on board if half are kids. Deep, stable and the 90hp Evinrude has been very dependable.

I'm always tinkering and making little improvements, but that's what you do to boats, imo.

Didn't see if you listed a budget for you search. That plays a big part in the equation.
