Does this sound normal for a Force?

I have a 1988 125 Force. Twice today the overheat alarm went off about 5 minutes AFTER I had stopped the engine. Is this an indication of a water pump going bad? I know an engine will heat up slightly after it is stopped, but I've never had the alarm go off like this. When stopping, does it matter whether I kill the engine quickly or power it down slowly as to how much heat will build up after it stops?

If you idle for a minute or two, the temperature should stabilize before shutdown. In any case, it's NOT normal for the hot horn to come on at all. You need to determine, if in fact, the motor is overheating (melt stick, hand on cylinder head, etc.).

When was the water pump last serviced? Do you use motor in saltwater? If yes, always flush w/ fresh water?

The impeller was replaced at the beginning of the season. Yes, I run in saltwater, but always flush.
