My mutts beg at the table. When I'm in a mean mood I grab som dry dog food and give it to them when they beg.

They usually drop it and go back to begging.

NO!

Love them, but----NO!

+1

Have a cat that behaves more like a dog. Never gets on the furniture, never gets on the table, kitchen cabinets, or anything higher than the floor. For some reason, unlike a typical cat, she's not a climber. Once in a very great while, she'll get on the arm of a chair in the living room when no one is around.

Although she's an indoor cat, I let her go out on the deck with me occasionally. Believe it or not, if I throw a stick, she'll fetch.

Table scraps? None but unseasoned chicken/turkey occasionally.

However, she does love BBQ better than any bubba I've ever known.

Whenever we order pizza I always tease them by offering up the jalepeno that comes with them. :) Sadly, my lab does occasionally feel adventurous and eats it.. making me go without a tasty pepper. :(

Sadly our two dogs do not sit at the table with us. They do however, join us every night for dinner time whether it's under the table at our feet, or at the foot of the couch.

My dogs are never far from us, nor us from them. Our lab is always volunteering to assist me in the kitchen; naturally he's hoping something drops...lucky for him I'm clumsy. :p

I find it fascinating and quite sad really the number of people who have animals in their homes and cannot seem to stand the traits of their particular species.

Shedding hair, drooling, smelly breath, flatulence...do people really think they are any different?

Our dog,my daughters dog and our daughters cat that seems to have become ours all become floor sharks at dinner time. My wife keeps giving them scraps.
Bed time can be a different story. One cat and two dogs on the bed at once.Been woken up with a battle royal in the middle night more than a few times. The good thing all the pets are under 10 pounds.

our dogs go everywhere with us. in fact i would not have it any other way. our son and daughter are great but the dogs mind better. they really don't eat at the table and are very well trained to wait to get their meals after us hence they do not drool (not then anyway) while we sit and eat. they would be more than willing to do the dishes though!

He has always loved to sit in chairs, but he has never been given table scraps. He likes to sit down when we are talking, or eating, but he doesn't beg. He sits the same in a car. So I guess that is a yes for us :D

QC we had a 100+ pound yellow lab . He passed 2 years ago, during the dog food anarchy. I can't swear it was the food but one day he couldn't stand up and it was over soon after. 10 years old gone from our lives.

Now we have a Dachshund female. We fist potty trained her in a cage but one of those collapsible ones.

And we have pillows and blankets in there now. She has hid all her chew toys and rawhide bones in there.

She actually knows it's her home and feels safe in there. She has the run of the house except at dinner time, and we sit down to eat she goes in there and waits till we call her back out. And she sleeps on my bed between me and my wife. Sometimes she gets put in the kids room at night.

But no i don't like the dog begging at the table. Because as much as we love her SHES STILL A DOG.

Maybe a pizza crust every once in a while but never people food.

Our dogs are outside, but 2 cats inside, no they do not bother us when we eat, they actually do not like people food. The big one will eat most anything for cats, the orange one is picky about her food. The dogs, well dog now, we had a black lab that would gobble down whatever was in front of him, I sometimes wondered if he even tasted what he was eating, the yellow chow mix, well she is more of a lady when eating. The black lab got real sick real quick, we know that there was the possibility of cancer and I think it came back, he stayed happy even when he started falling down and could not get back up, he was 11 years old, took him to the vet and had to put him down. Link to photos below, the cat named Turkey was over 21 years old when she passed, she was and still is the baby, there will never be another one like her. The Huskey passed one day while we were at work, do not know why. The rest of the pictures are of the current ones which includes the lab just gone.

What's with the excited 'NO' answers?

My dogs don't sit at the table, as dog hair migrates into our food enough as it is. They normally lay down at my feet, which is no different from where my dogs are as I type this. I don't lock them up, I don't dress them up, I let them be near me as they enjoy and it suits me as well (who else is going to lick my hands clean or clean the floor if I drop something.. usually on purpose?)

I feel bad for the pets with owners who don't treat them as family. I have enough neighborhood dogs whining because their owners leave them outside in subfreezing weather and no laws to protect the dogs from these abusive people to cause a lifetime of sadness. Why cause more by treating your pet as an object which can only come out when you want to use it?

Oh, and it's easy to pick out the animal haters (yet they still own one).. I would never call either of my dogs an 'it'. They have names, genders and are part of our family.

You read/assumed a whole lot into a simple NO answer.

Not letting a pet sit at the table is NOT abuse. I do NONE of the other things that you mention.

Our pets ARE part of the family in every other aspect. I could be accused of being a softy but sitting at the dinner table is where I draw the line.

Thankfully only two dogs now, Bear and our beagle, Daisy. The kids used to have lizards, snakes, mice, turtles, tortoises etc. Those seem to disappear over time . . . The first two pics are a couple of years old.

Guess what you blokes.....have you been following the news about this Chimp being shot by a cop.
As I understand it, some cartoonist has drawn something 'clever' with the sentence attached "now they'll have to find someone else to ..... ..... stimulus package".
I saw on TV people picketing/protesting, calling for the Post to be shut down.
Jeeeez, looks like it is going to get interesting.
Cheers

It has dominated the news here. They did go over the line. Right or wrong, if you voted for him or not, he has the big chair now.

Makes us look good all over the world huh?

Our greater swiss mountain dog Mochi lays under the table when we eat. He never gets scraps and knows he gets treats for behaving.

Both of mine are spoiled rotten but they do not beg at the table.
They know that when i get up from the dinner table then they might get a bite or two.
They lay across the room and wait for that moment...
