sounds rediculous i know but im just wondering my trim sender is toast on my 93 SP-C, how ever my Trim works fine... but my tilt does not work at all no clicking or nothing.. switch works perfeclty fine(tested) and im positive there is power going TO both relays.. im checking to replace both relay's but does that sender have to do with my tilt not working at all?

the motor is a 4.3L volvo.. if the sender does not have anything to do with the tilt im thinking and hopeing it will be the relay's.. all fuses are good.. or am i missing something?

Did your system have a trim limit on it before this problem? Normally, only the DP drives had the trim limit built in.
Can we assume the trim and tilt used to work for you? It's not a new to you boat?

It's all the same pump, and cylinders. Just hold the button down and see if the drive goes all the way up.

it does go all the way up and down... it has to different switches on the controls, one switch for trim, the other for tilt, the tilt switch is fine.. but it does not do anything. and i thought the tilt was supposed to bring it up and down faster than the trim?

You don't have a trailer button like a Mercruiser, you just use the up and down buttons. If you had the trim limit hooked up, the trailer button would do nothing by bypass the trim limit switch so the drive would go above the trim limit.

the thing is i dont think the trim limiter is hooked up if it has one, it goes all the way up and than once its up there i can hear the trim motor start to bog down because its all the way up... so the tilt buttons are there for no reason? i must be missing something or im not understanding what you said properly...sorry new to all of this..

You don't have a trim limit with that type gauge.
Remember one thing, this is a boat, not a car. Your controls may have buttons that aren't hooked up. That control may work for both drives with trim limit and those without.

Re: Does your tilt/trim sender have to work in order for tilt to work?

sorry if this may sound dumb but, i took the control's apart and had all the wires connected to the switch and running down into the boat.. so my boat only has trim? no tilt? everywhere iv looked it seems to confuse me between what tilt does and what trim does...anyone know the real difference ..? i would think tilt is for trailering and so on and trim if for fine tuning on the water...unless you only have trim than its used for both? in my case? or have i gone off the deep end?

Yes, you have. You are trying to complicate something that isn't complicated.
The only difference between trim and tilt is the trim limit, which could be called tilt limit. It keeps the drive from raising too high when running. BUT, YOU DO NOT HAVE TRIM LIMIT..
So instead of trying to give it a name, you have a button that moves the drive up and down. You can call it a trim button or a tilt button or and up down button, doesn't make any difference.
Without the trim limit in the system, you just move the drive up and down to whatever you want and as high or low as you want it.

Don , I have a similar problem - there are two switches on the throttle . trim and tilt. ( I have just bought the boat so it is new to me) trim works fine - up and down . but the tilt switch does nothing and the sterndrive clearly has plenty of travel left in the rams to get it higher . is this an issue with the sensors on the sterndrive base plate? its a Mariah 23 with the v8 5.0L volvo. help appreciated

You need to start your own thread John. Have a look at the "Announcement" at the top of this forum.
