So while fiddling with the LU I have the case off so i can check the cable guides. I noticed there were some wires that go into the distributor but they were all cracked and frayed out. I mean all the wires were contacting one another. Funny thing is, the motor ran just fine with it like that for who knows how long. Any thoughts on why and what to do? I figure I can just replace 1 wire at a time then use a wire loom to bunch them back together. But in order to do so I'd have to remove the distributor cap. Never done so and was wondering how hard the job would be. Something straight forward or one of those things you just have to know what you're doing.

sorry about that.

Mercury 1000 (100hp) I think it to be a 1969 motor.

Any idea on how hard it would be to re-do the wires?

Anyone? I don't no if I should run the motor with the wires looking like that but It didn't seem to make a difference before.

Do you guys need a another picture of the whole area?

I don't have this engine and have never worked on one but I might be inclined to think that what you are seeing is shielding and the acutal wires are encased in it. I'd clean it off with some Alcohol and the wrap it with tape and call it good, You could coat it in silicone first if you wanted.

there are 3 separate wires so it makes me uneasy to see them all contacting. But i will do my best to separate them i guess. thanks again!
