I think people that put there face at eye level with a animal they do not know are stupid or have not been around animals. Except maybe little fu-fu animals.

agreed,
the way the dog looked he wasn't trying to hurt,
the anchor woman was petting the dog (a lil roughly)for the camera, she wasn't paying attention at all to the dog.
being a dog lover and owner of three imho the dog was trying to say woo lady, ease up there.

the owner grabbed the pup quickly (1 handed)the dog wasnt agressive at all and was calm
that being said
i do feel bad for the woman and hope all is well

they are trying to pull the video everywhere.

IMHO THEY SHOULD LEAVE IT UP
that way people can see what really happened as opposed to just the headline
mastiff eats newswoman
the words could never properly paint the picture
just instill fear in people who dont know dogs

so the lucky dog that a neighborhood rescued
is now in isolation and his life is in the balance.
bullcrud i say
i feel good story ruined by a newswoman trying to gain popularity

its a shame that the news even covered it
and its also a shame they cited the owner for a leash law violation

end of rant

I think it was a nice local interest story to get covered. That part doesn't bother me. I don't like the attempt to go after the owner for a leash law violation. He was sitting there with a cop for cryin' out loud. The newsie didn't know how to handle dogs and got WAY too in the face of a big dog. That's the part that bothers me. The dog did what many dogs will do - snap you back outta' their space, and now like lil buggy says: he's facing death row.

None of the people on that set knew the dog well enough to be that close to the dogs face.

The dog is not facing death row unless it is rabid, this is the first offense for this dog so there is no death penalty for a bite.

that said this woman is an idiot, never ever get that close to a strange dog especially this dog, the day before this happened this dog was rescued from frozen over pond, its still pretty stressed and had made the rounds to all the TV and radio stations locally which was probably also a bad idea, this dog needed some time to relax and be with dad, it simply thought she was getting to close to dad. After the 10 day quarantine the dog will be released to its owner provided it is not found to have rabies which the owner has no proof of vaccination which is against the law BTW

Lipp,
agreed, but, i mean thats the way its headed, with the press coverage and all.
you never know... i could see it happen.

and yes,
owner is certainly at fault for not caring enough about his best friend to protect him from rabies.
i would be ok with a fine for that.

heck!
my pit bull mixIMG_0446.jpg got a coon in the middle of the day 2 years ago(yes i thought the coon had rabies )

even though her shots were up to date i was super worried and she got a booster just in case.
and all was well.

i just hate the negative press , esoecially from ignorance

it looked like the dog wanted to be a little "nosey" or just wanted to taste her nose. jks
that aside, if she didn't know the dog, she really shouldn't have put her face that close to the pup, he probably felt a little smothered and overwhelmed after everything, plus all the commotion off camera. silly silly silly woman.

Is that the one in Denver? Funny thing is the dog was rescued from an icy pond 2 days before hence why he was on tv

Yup, you gotta know a dog real well for long time to stick your face in that close with all your gleaming, white teeth hanging out. That was "back the heck off!" snap, not an attack. Heck, I think I might have snapped at her if she came zooming in on me like that.

This will cost the owner bigtime. In my state if dog bites someone, the first offense is that the owner carries $50,000.00 insurance on the dog.If it happens again the dog is euthanized.

That's part of the stinky/stupidity part of this - if I've got the story right, the rescuer was not the original owner of the dog. I think the animal is new to everybody. Then they start parading it through the news stories, making a fuss over the happy saved puppy ... chomp.

Doing that to an unknown dog is kind of stupid, but (what appears to me as) a pitbull, she's got to be friggin crazy??? Don't get me wrong, my neighbor has a couple of pitbulls that are nice and gentle as they have been raised that way. But, pitts are not known to be the type of dog people own as lap dogs, more along the lines of protector and get the *@&%! off my property type of dog.... Heck, I wouldn't do that to my neighbor's pitbulls, and I've known them since they were pups.

At least she wasn't doing a rescued pet alligator story...

I understand you could see it happen but I can't this would absolutely explode if they tried to put this dog down

That is the sad part, if this had been a Pit the up roar would be exactly the opposite, kill it now, very sad.

Yes this Dog was the one rescued from the frozen pond LIVE on the news in Denver

(what appears to me as) a pitbull,

No this is a Mastiff Boxer mix I believe they have never said it was a Pit mix not that it matters other then in public perception.

Right now the afternoon radio stations are trying to determine who is financially responsible the problem is the dog and owner were invited to the tv station which implies that they (the tv station)are assuming responsibility, yes it could go to court but I doubt it, the news lady is a very nice lady but to be honest is not the sharpest tool in the shed(I felt this long before this incident), to go face to face with an unknown dog is stupid of epic proportions

It should also be noted that the News Woman had reconstructive surgery yesterday, so to me that means her injury was quite severe, thankfully she will be ok

Re: dog bites nbc anchor

Not a pit but an Argentine Mastiff or Dogo Argentino "specifically bred to be fierce hunters, but then to go home to the hunters families and be gentle with the family." I did a little Google trying to find out how bad she got chomped. The stories range from "reconstructive surgery" to "upper lip torn off". In any case, she's out of the hospital and on the mend, hopefully reviewing her sins.

Most interesting are the comments under the stories where the general consensus is that she richly deserved the nip she got and is lucky she still has a face.

A little over 40 years ago I got my lip nipped by a dog that I crowded. It was a toy poodle. I thought that I knew a lot about dogs, but I learned a lot that day.

Addition: To paraphrase Chris Rock, that dog didn't go crazy, that dog went dog.

No biggie.

Just a Pit Bull, doing exactly what it's Genetics, has programmed it to do.

mscher,
wasn't a pit bud.
bassman had it right argentine mastiff
(off topic)
and pits arent mean by themselves. genetics has nothing to do with it!
all dogs that are raised mean are mean
heck a toy poodle is much more mean than a pitbull( both raised correctly)i owned both breeds toy poodle when i was growin up

back to subject,
yes lipp i saw that as well.
looks of it i thought he mighta caught the end of her nose or lip not sure
i wonder what happened to the original owner
not sure how the guy on the show got the dog either
but if the original owner was more carefull with his (best friend) none of this woulda ever happened
it is a shame
looks as if no one stepped up and said thats my pup on the news (unbeleiveable)

She's at fault and brought this on herself. Once she put one hand on his head and the other under his chin set this whole thing in motion. The dog turned away and she came back in his space and he nipped her. Unfortunately a nip from a pitbull is more serious than a nip from a yapper dog. I hope she'll be okay and they don't put the dog down. He didn't seem aggressive when he bit her... just telling her let me be.

Re: dog bites nbc anchor

No offense, but she seemed to be very annoying. I might have bit her myself if she got in my face like that:facepalm: I adopted a grown stray dog i still have 8 yrs ago and she is a great loving and protective watchdog. She also sometimes cringes or shys away If she sees me holding a stick, shovel, rope, garden hose spraying, and even a flyswatter so I assume she was probably abused and beaten by her previous owners. You can never tell what a found dog has been through and should be very carefull until you gain their trust and get to know them well.
