Only sport we do with ours is dog tubing. Haven't found any local competitions. Maybe there's a national competition we could enter.

Re: Dog Sports

I put a lot of time into training with my last Golden, but never competed. The current Retriever is less trained, but still worked some. Thought about some of the more advanced stuff with her because she's very spirited, but don't really have the time. Plus she's got a short attention span too :)

Re: Dog Sports

my last dog was so smart she was stupid.
she was just trained naturally .
she hated other men she was very protective of me and my daughter.
didnt have the wife at the time.
and in the winter i would attach a harnesse to her, and hook up the toboggan up to her and she would pull my daughter in the bush .
when my daughter would fall off, or if they got too far ahead she would stop, and let her get back on or sit and wait for me too catch up.
wish i still had her around but she had epileptic seizures, and took one one night and passed away .
she would go and take off for a day or so, and come back with rabbits, birds, squirrels ,mice.
but she was smart enough to leave skunks and porcupines alone.
i just couldnt leave her alone or she would tear the house apart .
btw she was a black lab shepherd mix
she hated swimming but when i would take my daughter fishing the dog would go along the bank fishing for rock bass
she would pull them outta the water and chomp on em just glad the game warden never saw it.

Re: Dog Sports

We've got a German Shepherd that will be a year old this month. Haven't quite made up my mind what I want to do with him yet. He's working lines, so he needs an outlet for all of his drive and energy. And he just loves working. That's what most people who do whatever sport do it for: the love of the dog. Generally most people don't do a sport with a dog who doesn't enjoy doing it. And it's a phenomenal way to bond with a dog. You don't have to have a 'show dog' to have a good time doing sport :)

No one does Dock Dog Competitions?! I figured that'd be a lock on a boating forum lol!

Yes, my wife enters our youngest golden retriever in agility trials. Getting better as time goes by. Last weekend they got their 8th double-qualify (DQ!) of 2013. We retired the older golden as she had a habit of going off-course to visit the volunteers who sit around the perimeter of the ring.
