Question for other boaters:
when on a troll and everyone is doing the 'mery go round' working the troll, well my buddy keeps tellin me just to run on in there and elbow my way in.

this I say no to and I hold back and look at traffic & evaluate before jumping in and setting gear out.

its better when everyone in tight formation are with the program right?

Hey Crazy Amish--your fishing buddy sounds a lot like mine. I agree with your trolling method. I respect everyone's "space" and go with the program. This is especially true when I go kokanee trolling when the fish are gathered in the same area. After I catch my limit (God willing), I head out where there is less fishing pressure. MB

Don't like crowds at all. Crowds on the water are worse than crowds on the hiway.

I will troll somewhere else and maybe catch fewer fish, but wont get an adrenalin OD either. :D

Re: doin the troll and with the program

When the wagons are circled and it's head to toe elbow to elbow I stay out of it ... I've fished enough that when out on a recreation trip it's not worth it.

Add some $$ to the topic and most (not all) opinions change. I've fished quite a few derby's on Lake Michigan and I've seen some moves out of guys that make you want to grab the flare gun and shoot a few tracers out in front of 'em to wake 'em up a little.

Nothing like having 12-15 rods spread out 150' wide and having to slam the throttle into neutral because some bone head had a brain storm.

....then along comes a sail boat...

Depends how big your boat is, what you're rigged for, what your fishing for and, how many people are aboard and carrying licenses.

I'll fish 6 by myself and 10 if I have help on my boat but I know people that regularly pull 20 to 30 when things get hot.

Re: doin the troll and with the program

Hey all,wow what a thread.
I prefer not to go 'combat fishing' with the mob meyham mentality.
was working my own merry go round, been doing same pattern for 1 1/2 hrs, sonar was showing LOTS of dinner swimming 'round',anyway this meatball decides that he needs to work the same area,my circle was about 400 yd circular pattern, well this guy decided to join and was outside my turn raduis, did I mention that he was running oppisit of my direction,we was bow VS bow at every loop, this meatball could not hold the pattern, weaving hear and there, his dear sweet wife was fishing too, holding that meat-line all nice and proper, while that meat line was all tangeled around the main motor, the guy was dinking with his gear and then jumping to the helm to change his heading every 30 sec, anyway I decided to leave that joker in my established zone,I had to leave anyway cuz the seals caught on to what I was doing and they wanted some fish too.

if I was on the water and in a pattern and some fool comes zooming in and elbows his way in,I would get pissed.

anyway in washington state it is 1 pole per person,I am in the puget sound and fishing right off the mouth of the poualliup river.

20 horse and 4.5 horse,both are merc
Peace

Ohio allows two..Minnesota one..Sometimes when I troll and when I am surrounded tend to cast to at the same time...kinda lets them know my strike range..Once they see the lumber I throw they tend to give me a wide berth..

Maryland allows 3 per angler in non-tidal waters and an unlimited amount in tidal waters.

Re: doin the troll and with the program

big kings and silvers are running right now,I finaly got that paint smell outta the boat, replaced with fish stink..lol

I am sorta new at the boating and now I have learned to elbow my way in and elbow my way out,I am still not comfortable when I am at full throttle and plow thru a bunch of boaters working the troll or jigging,I give em plenty of room & to the dismay of my buddy,I will go on the outside of the merry-go-round of boaters instead of thru em.

anyone out there from around here in the south sound?
