Hey Don or another guru ,<br /> Is it fiesable to use the upper unit of the outdrive from my 1987 2.3L Cobra setup on the 1989 4.3L setup if I change the gear ratio?<br /> According to part #s they are the same case.<br /> Reason I ask , is the boat I bought for my 4.3L conversion has a bad(fried!!) upper unit.<br /> Thanks!! <br /> Larry

The gear ratio (gears) should be the only difference.Before you get too comitted,have a dealer check part availability. NOT just that the part numbers are good and have current prices,but that the parts actually sit in one of BRPs warehouses.<br /><br />Since the new gears will need reshimming,etc ., can't your old unit be rebuilt cheaper ?<br /><br />DHP

I just found out that the upper unit from my 4cyl drive is the same gear ratio as a High altitude drive for the 4.3L!<br /> That tickles me to death <br /> Do you guys know of anyone that can do a rebuild for me? I want it right the first time.<br /> I also need the lower unit from the 4.3L drive rebuilt. I figure might as well do them both.<br /> Any info is appreiciated.

I just had my Cobra upper rebuilt by T.C. Marine/Electronics. The price was SIGNIFICANTLY (like 30 - 40%) less than other places I checked, turnaround was quick, and from what I've been able to tell they did a good job.
