Hi Don, could you please provide a link to the Merc Service Manual #15. This is the one that you said I would need for my "new" boat, '92 350 Magnum. BTW, what is the HP rating on this engine? 260?

Thanks.........Tony

There isn't one Tony. And if you go to the different manuals in vipzach's post above, you will find very few of those actually go anywhere.

What do you mean "very few actually go anywhere"? The number 15 isn't on there, but all of them listed (that I have gone to) go somewhere. I am pretty sure that is a link I got from you.

18 went somewhere and helped me out. you have to pay attention to when the pdf "hand" turns into the "pointing hand" though.

fbt, i'm sure ya want to read up on yer new toy now, but a long time ago someone posted about getting a real manual from ebay. i tried that. and it works pretty good. and i aint a ebay shopper for the most part either. i got #1 & #2 for a total of $34. shipped. ya can't read yer computer in the bathroom either. (i think that notion was posted earlier here somewhere too and is true) bet mercruiser would like to sell ya a new one too. they quoted me $75 ea. i think.....the computer is great for sure, but i don't reckon ya can beat a real service manual. enjoy yer new toy......

So I have to buy one? What about Clymers? Which one should I get?

Re: Don S.link to Merc Manual

Ok, in the link for manuals, only 7 work.
6-11-14-20 are for drives
13 is for 90-97 3.0L engines
16 is for 93-97 454 engines
18 is for 93-97 4.3 V6 engines
After that nothing works. So unless you have an engine in those ranges you don't have a manual.

Tony
Spend the bucks and get the Real Merc manual. Clymers and Seloc cover too many engines and very little of what you actually have. Plus the Clymers have lots of mistakes.

PS: MY favorite manual graphic.

As someone outside of the marine industry who thought getting a Clymer's was a good idea and would help me out...let me second Don's recommendation. Don't waste your money. Get a Merc manual. The Clymers was mostly incomplete and useless for me, even to figure out basic drive maintenance like changing bellows, etc. I'd hate to try to complete a rebuild out of one of those.

Re: Don S.link to Merc Manual

freebeetony, i gave ya 2 places ya can get a manual at. mercruiser marine has a link for service manuals. ya just feed them yer serial # and they'll send ya a book. if ya know yer serial # that is. i didn't.
there's always yer local mercrusier dealer too. he will probably be able to get ya an oem book and one or the other of clymers or seloc. my dealer had clymers. iboats has an aftermarket book for ya too(seloc?) i think. so that's four places ya can get one at. maybe don s knows a better place......

Try eBay. Even if not listed, there are some sellers who might have one if you email them.

Also might try Amazons used book place.

You need to order the engine manual, I can give you a link to the outdrive service manual, do you have an Alpha I or an Alpha I Gen II drive?

Re: Don S.link to Merc Manual

You should be able to tell by raising the drive and seeing if you have thru bolts thru the upper and lower housing. If you do, it's the Alpha I Gen II drive.
