hi don s bob/philly i got an appointment with my local shop to install my rebuit long block. boats been sitting 10 yrs stringer are fine..its cold here not to bad but don. i would like some advice on the major things that could be bad behind the motor . flex plate gimble etc..the reason if the big $$ parts are bad i got all winter to find some in my budget. the starter manifold steering . all those things i will worry about later. if i get lucky and most of the things are good i will get a total install and complete job..if i run into things to pricy i will fix them later . my new motor is in a friends garage and i need to move it plus dealer is slow at new year. nice family dealer.
i got new mani's water pump. engine cover's old starter. thank don any advice from you and the guy's would be nice..also my friend took a cruise of alaskia and i got some pic's of you small town..its really a nice looking clean living town. they took like 200 pic's and sent me the like. boy it's beauifull there.

Re: DON S some advice on engine install

also i forgot are plan at dealer is to bring boat and let him take out my motor. and make sure everything is ok and after that bring him new engine. he understands i dont want to spend unreal money and to be fair as i waited nicely for 2 months to do it in his slow time...its a very small mercruiser dealer family owned. he thinks pulling out old one first then would be smart i agree. i could do this all myself in the summer as i am very handy. getting older 45 soon and want to let them do the heavy work and me the easier work. seats buffing cleaning cables etc..i guess he wants to make sure stringer's are good before i rush him the new engine. plus i forgot to say if installed by dealer i got 2 yrs $3500 warr. to pay shop a total of max $3500 parts and labor. first yr all gaskets are covered. after 1st year just engine

Well,.....
Reading your posts,.... I'd say it looks like you've got a Solid Plan,......
You don't have a Flex-plate,... But you do have a Coupler,.....
I'd Probably Swap it out,.....
Atleast Clean,+ Inspect the Splines in your's,+ If there's Any Sharpening of the Points,.....
I'd drop the couple hundred bucks,+ Replace it......
It's a Good Time to really consider the outdrive's Input shaft too,..... It runs In the Coupler Splines.....
The Gimbel Bearing is done from the Outside of the Boat,....
But an Inspection is No Doubt in Order.....
If you're reusing the Oil Pan,.... Check it over Closely for Rust......

Re: DON S some advice on engine install

bondo i got a new oil pan (used but real nice) if i need it the coupler i will get it this shop is nice. the kinda guy where you buy a $8 part and forget what side goes in and call him he will look it up and tell me bob you got it backwards..so i have good faith in him i told him if its not to bad and things go good i want complete job. running timing etc. starter..carb rebuild..i will still need to redo seats i can do that . i used to work for a place, bond-o i know how do do 99% of the work and can. i know not a thing about the drive. but i got a 14teen y/o and when it was about 8-9, he helped me rebuild my 135h/p johnson. now i wonder why he hates boats.. so i hope to do the seats radio buff the gell coat install belts and hose do carb steering cable . unless he gives me a real fair price i will get him to do it all.thanks again

Check all the transom shield bolts with special attention to the bottom two. Check/replace rear motor mounts. Check flywheel ring gear for wear. Check/replace coupler. Check Y-pipe for signs of leaking at transom shield.
