Done grinding on my Raven

As promised here's some pics of my restore. I just got done grinding last night and finished cleaning up my mess today (plan on glassing this weekend). I've included a before pic (when I just got the floor up), and the after pics.

While grinding out one of the center stringers I slipped with the grinder and went thru the hull. I've got a 2 1/2" gash now, luckily its easily accessable both inside and outside of the boat. I plan on laying down a few layers of 1708 on the inside, letting it cure, then filling the missing gelcote on the outside with Marine Tex. Will that work?

It doesnt look finished ground to me? There are still some old pieces of glass sticking up and there is quite a bit of foam all over. You sure you want to put new glass down on that?

You have no overlap space beside where your stringers are going to fit back in. It looks like only a inch or so.

Well I suppose I should've titled the thread "done grinding for now". There's a bit more cleanup work that needs done, but nothing too major. Obviously before I glass in ANYTHING I'm going to hit the area again to ensure proper adhesion. Also there's a TON of extra glass all over the hull and gunwales. What you see around the stringer beds is the bottom of the hull, the area outside of that where it looks like it isn't ground actually is. I just tapered the chopped mat so that there were no air pockets.

You are pretty much where I am at with my glastron! I was going to get on her today but I got home too late to start. I'm hoping sometime this weekend to get on it and finish the hard grinding.

I too went through the hull with the grinder. I'm going with some 1708 biax/similar to fix the spots and marine tex the outside, so you are on the right track. When I do the inside work though, I plan to tape the outside with wax paper so hopefully I won't have to tex it and can just paint over it since I'm doing a full hull paint job eventually like Johns Glastron.

Interestingly, my hull is green glass vs yours being red. I wonder if I have vinylester resin or polyester resin...my hull has small blisters, so it makes me wonder...

Perhaps we'll be able to pace each others projects!

Yea, I failed to mention I'm going to try to use the wax paper trick on the outside as well. I still think the Marine Tex is important, because I don't know how waterproof (especially over time) my simple repair will be. I know MT is waterproof and should hold up pretty well over time.

In regards to bubbles, I've die grinded quite a few out of my hull and filled them with MT. Change the die to a sanding disc, hit the spots a few times, and the MT works PERFECTLY.

Transom will be done Saturday.. Stringers may begin Sunday, it depends on how the transom job goes.

I plan on painting my whole job when it's done, so I'll keep everyone updated on progress.

Yeah, mine was like that too, pics are hard to judge...mine was especially challenging because Wellcraft used different glass on different areas so the grinding never really looked "done". Good job and I hope the transom job goes well. Post some pics to show your methods. later.

You are looking good. Hole in the hull....... you are FAR from the first to do that

I have used 2" wide clear plastic packing tape on the hull to keep the marine tex glass smooth and then I remove the tape the following day. The advantage is you can see through it and see the repair in progress.

I would repair the hole from both sides then use marine tex unless you are going to do a gelcoat repair.... then use fiberglass only.
