I made that decision in March. We dumped the 19' OMC powered cuddy for a bigger cuddy with a mercruiser.

rubberfrog - having done it, do you have any regrets or things you would have done differently?

I'm second guessing (slightly) the I/O decision due to the loss of room and also may want something with a little less vinyl

You guys are so busy disparaging OMC that you have failed to mention to boatgrunt that OMC is not even an option anymore. Volvo Penta bought out the OMC assets and factory in late '98 after a successful joint venture partnership, and the legal entity still known as OMC is wholly owned by Bombardier, which continues to produce new OEM equipment (gear boxes, outdrives, etc.) for OMC systems. Volvo's drive system was kind of clunky until they hooked up with OMC - despite what some folks say, I think the best elements of the innovative Cobra drive system live on in the Volvo Penta outdrive.

Boatgrunt - I'm with the Crownline, too, they're just usually a touch pricey on the acquisition and maintenance side, if you take it to an authorized Crownline dealer.

If you are going in salt water esp if moored an outboard is the way to go, much less maintenance, more expensive up front but cheaper, less work and holds its value better in salt areas. In fresh you can get whatever you like, you will find more cuddy style boats with I/Os than anything else, but here walk arounds with outboards are most popular.

Thanks everyone - probably going with the Crownline. I would have considered an outboard but just not many out there that fit what I was looking for. Looked at three boats today, and the condition of the Crownline (boat, engine and outdrive) made it the superior deal by far. I can't wait to post pictures!! :D :D :D
