I know that everyone has done this, even myself, but this was kinda bad to say the least. I was at my favorite lake yesterday and had just unloaded my boat and went and parked the truck. Got back in the boat and noticed 2 older gentlemen backing their boat into the water. The one in the boat back it off the trailer and into the lake as the norm, only it looked as if it was sitting low in the water. Then I seen panic on his face as he just realized they had forgot the plug. Well he was in about 30' of water and headed for the bank. He did not go to the bank through, he went back to the dock and tied the boat up and got out. Well by this time his buddy had come back down to get in and he arrived about the time the transom went under water. Lucky for them it was shallow enough for the motor to touch bottom and just sit there. I went back over and ask about a bilge pump and was informed that it had quit the last time they were out and he had not got it fixed. Well to make a long story short, I got in the water and put the plug in. I got my portable aeroator that I use for my cooler that I keep bait in sometimes and a piece of hose and began pumping water out. I left them there and told them where I would be if they got going. If not then leave my pump at the dock house. About 2 hours later, here they came. Said the motor did not suffer any damage but they would have to dry their spare clothes out.
2 Things to say here. 1. Always make sure the bilge pump works and 2." MAKE SURE THE PLUGS IN!!!!!" :D

Spinner_bait, you are what keeps me having faith in the sport of boating. :) I hope if ever I have a problem on the water you or someone like you, are nearby. 99% are real humans, that help out others at some cost to ourselfs(getting wet, etc.)Glad your'e not like that one guy that watched a novice's boat sink. When in doubt, help them out.(I think you know who I was talking about) P.D.S.

It would probably take some guts to try, but of you could catch the boat before it sunk and managed to power away, the suction effect could drain the water out and then the pug could be put it whilst on the move.

Have never tried this though but physics says it should work??/

NG

The bilge pump sounds a lot more dignified. The three main things to check before launching are the plugs, the plugs & then the plugs. Sink or swim. With the plain and drain idea, you'd need a reliable motor huh.

NGRIFF, it does work !!! I was not convinced until 1 day I forgot plug on my 14' aluminum, it was too late to go get truck and back up at ramp so I decided to try the idea.

Well it took about 1/2 hour to dump 200 gallons of water, half of that time with bow straight up in the air and mee peeking over side to see where I was going, then finally weight reduced and I was able to get on plane, speed helped a lot.

Lesson learned.....

Yeah the plain and Drain works wonders Ive used it many of times. Yet i have come to learn that it actualy works better with a GO-Devil than an outboard.
