We have a 91 bayliner capri 2050cx. mercury mercruiser 4.3L .. Shouldn't We have one? I looked all over her and have not located one at all.(positive). Can any one tell me what would be a good one for me to install. I do believe I should have one any way and am willing to put one on just to be on the safe side ,after reading some of the horror stories about water in the fuel..Any input on wich one I should use would be appreciated , It doesnt tell me in my book (Seloc mercruiser/sterndrives 1964-91 repair manual) Thanks PAT:cool:

The 91's didn't have a water seperator/fuel filter mounted on the engine. That came a few years later.
They only had the filters in the pump and carb.
Best to change both and install a fuel/water seperating filter before the fuel pump.

OK this is exactly what it looks like. From the tank there is a fuel line then brass fuel filter ,then more line, looks like fuel pump(brass just like filter with two wires connected to it , then more line to fuel filter in carb.... Thats the best way for me to put it :D

Post a picture, I have no clue what you are trying to describe. This could be either a newer engine and the cool fuel system or some dumb mistake by a previous owner.

Do you have a serial number for your engine?

First thing - lose the Seloc manual. Light a bonfire with it, use it as a binliner, anything. Get the real deal from a Merc dealer. You'll thank me, really.

Brass fittings with 2 wires. Are you talking about an electric fuel pump? Those engines were supplied with a mechanical pump. The factory electric pumps didn't arrive until about 1994.

To re-iterate what has been said before, what is the engine serial number? What's written on the front of the plastic cover on the carb? Does it say "fluid mounts" or "power steering"?

OK here is the ser.# on the engine (GM6269732) The boat is a 91 Bayliner Capri 2050cx , on the other thread I posted I ask similar question. The carb. that is on this engine is a MERCARB , I looked it up on EBAY and it is the exact carb I have, MCM120 or MCM140 carb. I don't believe its the right one for the engine , they said this one (the pics.) came off of a 1984 Searay mercruiser 4 cyl. mcm140 engine. Here are the pics. can you tell if the engine I have is the original?? vin.# is BJYA12CXEF091. THANKS EVERY ONE FOR YOUR TIME AND ANSWER iT IS ALL STARTING TO MAKE SENSE, SO THE BRASS FILTER LOOKING THING WITH THE WIRES, NEXT TO THE FUEL FILTER ON THE FUEL LINE LEADING TO THE CARB. IS THE FUEL PUMP .

Re: DON'T HAVE WATER/FUEL SEPARATOR ?? 91 bayliner

Hi again,

Been away, but I'm back for a few days now.

That number is the block number, not the engine serial number. You'll find the engine serial number on a small plate rivetted to the block just above the starter motor, or on the decals on the carb cover.

Ok, the Mercarb. The Mercarbs for the 120, 140, 470 series, V6 and V8 engines do all look the same, from the outside. They have different jets, venturis and float heights. You can't put one from a different engine onto yours. Sorry. Nice idea, but....

Can you post a photo of the mysterious item (fuel pump, or whatever it is)?

Chris..................

Hello ACHRIS,I will go out and look above the starter right now, the mercarb was on there when I bought the boat. I did find some numbers on the back of the engine right by the trans. So far I believe I some whatfigured out that the block has been replaced with a 97 block ,ser# starts off with OK, everything else is original 91 parts
