Have a 1994 evinrude 150 intruder that has lost pressure in one cylinder do i need a new powerhead or is there any other fix? The boat still seems to run well on 5 cylinders with the idle turned up some. have been running the boat like this for awhile, thought it was the idle. any help for a non-mechanical guy would help

Re: Don't know what to do!

what is the compression in the bad cylinder? you can try a decarb, might work.

it is going to require a tear down, to replace the piston or rings.

Re: Don't know what to do!

Im going to assume you totally blew a cyl.based on you saying no compression. If you continue running the engine ,sooner or later, your piston may begin to fall apart ,sending rings, aluminum, bearings and who knows what else through the whole engine. The repair at that point could be very expensive. You may also break a rod, causing the crankshaft and block to become unusable ,at that point the whole powerhead assy.would be junk.Best advice is pull the head,do a visual on the piston and cyl.wall.Likely will need to be rebuilt.

I will get all the cylinders pressure checked, then pull the head to check the pistons ,wall, and cylinder. thanks for giving me direction!
