I've enjoyed the posts on depth/fish finders and I've written down some notes from your posts...but...

Could anyone give me their .02 on a depth/fish finder for:

17' flatbottom boat that will never go over 35mph (if that makes a difference?) always fresh water, lakes usually, rivers sometimes.

What am I after in one of these? #1) WARNING for shallow water #2) be kind of cool to actually have a "fish" finder.

I don't need the best "fish" finder in the world, but it would be nice to have one that was beneficial instead of a decoration.

Having said all that, the easier to use, and lowest price that will produce what I'm after, well, I'd be tickled!

THANKS GUYS! :D

Gidday BBogey ,
I concur with the above, watch the sales.
There wouldn't be a sounder on the market now that doesn't have a whole raft of features well above the level you'd want. For my money the cheapest is the Humminbird wide 100, but then I'm biast as I've got one and like it. There's those that would argu to buy a colour sounder but you did say cheap didn't you!
Good luck
Ross

BBogey- If you go to Boattest.com you can find a nice comparison chart for all kinds of various equip. That would be a good start point. The prices are all list,so you can then shop around.
