I was adjusting my trailer Saturday, had it on the ramp with the boat on it, standing on the ramp in the water checking the fit (plenty of ramp space low taffic), big ol' I/O skiboat idles in next to me, dad just getting ready to step onto the courtesy dock, but the boat starts drifting my way (layout: a pair of 2-lane ramps between courtesy docks with single-lane ramps on the outside). Mom leaves the helm so she can reach over her starboard bow to push off against my upright trailer guide-on; that worked okay, but...as she stepped forward she put the engine in gear! Dad was frantic "you put it in gear! why did you put it in gear?" "I don't know I just panicked!"<br /><br />Anyway, now this big-asp boat is idling toward the ramp, naturally I stepped forward & leaned into her with all my weight, which fortunately was enough to hold her back off the ramp until Mom could get back & cut the engine. <br /><br />They were appropriately apologetic & no harm/no foul, but you should have heard the stern lecture Mom got from Dad: "Never, ever put it in gear!"
