Re: Don't slow down!

Fish early or expect traffic.

I agree. Im usually coming off the water as the pleasure boaters are coming on. there is a group of hard core water skiers on one lake I frequent. they are out in the water at first light, but when they see me anchored they move to a different part of the lake and I do the same if I see them skiing.

Re: Don't slow down!

I never had a problem with fisherman till last year. They started a bass tournament mid day on a weekend. Coming out of one of the no wakes 25-30 bass boats came ripping the whole lake wide. Payed no attention to anyone. We were coming in on a buddies Checkmate and had no where to go but straight. They never slowed down, stayed in it coming straight for us then whip to one side or the other. I love fishing, I fish a lot but on the main lake you can't expect everyone to stop for you. To each there own. If I want to tube that day I'll grab my runabout, if I want to fish I'll take my little 16' bass boat. Just show a little respect and give comfortable room for the person/people and whatever they are doing.
As for jet skis... I love riding them and going fast. When some idiot comes at me from the side doing 65mph when I'm running 60mph it's dangerous and uncalled for. If you want to jump my wake BACK OFF!! I don't care just don't do it 20ft behind my boat. There is no marging for error there. What if I let out of the throttle and don't see them?? Jet skis don't stop fast from 65mph...

One thing people learn real quick if they get to close to someone fishing. That is if they get close enough to catch a line and get it around their prop shaft and rip out the seals, they more than likely back off on the next anglers they encounter.

Re: Don't slow down!

This issue came up last night in my safe boating course. The amount of water a boat and certain kinds of boats, displace when on plane or plowing.

Being new to boating, I thought many were jerks ripping past me at speed while fishing, now I suppose it is better for them to do so. Not to mention, cruising past me slow only spooks the fish more.

last year on our maiden voyage we were on a wide open lake and I looked up and saw the bow of a ship coming right for us. We had to pull anchor and run to get out of this guys way!!!

It always pays to pay attention to your surrounding and the things other people do on the water.

Also if you park in the middle of the interstate beware of tractor trailers and high speed nuts.

If you Park in the middle of a large body of water, watch out for the big boys and high wakes and waves.

All of the big ones start out slow, and stop even slower, and don't like shallow water.

Re: Don't slow down!

This is a great attitude you display here . . .

So what you are trying to convey to us is that it's OK to call me to let me find a boat for you because I'm stealing free advertising for my business off this iboats site but I'll take your money even if you are a freakin "fisherman".

Ya, I agree with ya . . . most of the problems on the lakes are intensified by all those fisherman just sitting there drowning a worm

I really could care less how you feel about my attitude. I made a very valid point about fishermen who hog HUGE sections of small lakes (or channels, etc.). Happens all the time and we all have seen it. THEN they complain about the rest of us trying to have fun on the lake. As i said, get in and out early ot too bad.

I NEVER said anyone should purposely cause any problems for another boater - I have never and will never do that. However, we can only go so far in accomodating lake hogs. If you fish and are a mid-day lake hog, then expect traffic and wake. If you fish early then you should be given a wider area because the lake is less crowded and plenty of room for everyone.

Get it?

P.S. I don't "do" fishing boats. Sorry, can't help you there.
