Doubling oiling is reccommended when you have an engine rebuilt on most motors. Whats the harm to double oil all the time?? I know it would foul the plugs out quicker but any other problems?? Why i ask this is because when i run 50-1 in a 60 hp johnson it doesnt seem like it smokes at all at startup. Always heard you should see a little smoke. Im sure its smoking some but not enough to notice. Using Penzoil Synthetic .

Re: Double Oiling

Here is my opinion on the subject. Why run more oil the you have to? Oil costs money. In the fifties and earlier most major brand outboard ran 25:1 all the time. Then the industry mostly cut back to 50:1, (except for the break in period). Then they tried to go 100:1 and a variable rate injection/induction. Well they started to have problems with engine failure. So back to what worked. The outboard industry like all industries is tring to be more eco-freindly. OK, back to the question. Running double oil probably won't hurt anything except your fuel bill. Running 24:1 really doesn't foul plugs and carbon up stuff as much as most guys like to think. What causes these problems is an air/fuel mixture problem. The carb dialed in too ritch. Now, if your motor is set up to run 50:1, you would get no benifit from using more oil after break-in. As far as smoke on your motor goes, I have read that synthetic oils don,t smoke as much. I don't know this for fact, as I have never used any.

Re: Double Oiling

You are seeing no smoke because the synthetic dosnt smoke as much as regular 2 cycle oil. Run it at 50:1 and be happy. :D
