So, I take the old boat and motor out for a Monday of fishing. Launch went OK, and I backed away from the ramp's dock. I got far enough back to turn safely, and shifted to forward. Nothing doing. Outboard stays in Reverse. Whatever it was, I knew I wasn't going to get it fixed on the water, and I'm sitting right off the ramp.

Fire up the electic troller and head back to the dock, where a nice guy grabs my bowline and ties me off.

"Trouble?" he asks.

"Yup," I respond. "Some shifting problem. It's back on the trailer for me."

So, the guy says to me, "You think that's bad? My boat is up there on the trailer. I forgot the boat keys, and now the wife has to drive an hour to bring them to me."

Well, turns out the shifting thing was my fault, due to a forgotten bolt on the shift rod clamp. It worked for a while, but loosened up.

I had the boat fixed and came back to the lack. The other guy was still sitting there, looking forlorn. The wife still hadn't showed up, and it was an hour and half later.

I offered to take him out fishing on my boat, but he allowed as how he'd be in even more trouble if he wasn't there when she got there.

Re: Double Trouble at Ramp

Well i have to admit to having both these problems before :) but i solved my key problems by having spares and a few blanks and file in my boat so if i lost or forgot them i make a new one or if a person there has no keys 9 times out of ten i can file him on down to use.

But my throttle cable came off when i pulled back on the gas to slow down going thru a concrete pipe that connects 2 lakes. I managed to slide thru that pipe perfectly and would have been very proud of myself if it was not cause my the cable coming off lol. but i did have to change my underware when i got home lol
