Maybe the wrong forum, hope not......

I bought a Garmin GPSmap 76 handheld unit for boat use. Mostly I boat in the NY Finger Lakes which do not seem to be pre-loaded on the unit. Where can I get a CD or download of this area to put on my unit? I searched google and I see "Bluechart" marine maps, but i can't figure out which one I'd need. Also, they seem to cost a lot!

Thanks.

This is what you need: 'http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/inland/card.jsp?sku=LUS003'

You want the Micro SD for your 76 and I saw some on eBay too. Use the Mapsource viewer (Garmin site) to determine if your lakes have the detail you want . . .

Thanks for the info! I'll check into that. My GPSMAP 76 has no slot for a data card (I sure don't see one anyhow) so i assume I'd need to put it on my computer and then hook the unit to the PC and load it onto the GPS internal storage.

I'm going to all Garmin one of these days to make sure how it's done.

That Mapsource viewer is so slow I gave up on finding any detail of finger lakes.

What you need is Garmin's Mapsource Recreational Lakes CD for your part of the country.

That's what I use in my GPSMAP 276C. Not all lakes are covered. You need to look 'em up on the Garmin International website.

The CD will give you the software to download selected maps into the unit. You will probably need an interface cable from the unit to a ubs or Com port.

I have the same unit- actually the GPSMap 76 Csx, which is the same, except for a few extras. Do as JB said- buy the blue chart CD. I got it from Amazon, but they sell it everywhere. I recommend the CD, so if you need to reload the data, you can do it when you need to. If you buy it preloaded on a micro SD card, once the card craps out, you may be out of luck. You can only choose one region when you "unlock" what you want. I chose Lake Ontario with St. Lawrence River. It includes Cayuga, Seneca and Oneida Lakes, but not Canandaigua or Keuka. You would have to unlock inland lakes for those. So you have to decide what you will use most, or purchase them all for $100 each.
In any event, I love the unit. Easy to use, move around when needed, and runs on batteries. I have even used it walking. Pretty cool.
