Gonna be pulling the boat out of the water, and want some adivce on changing the gear oil. Everything I come up with is that it will require taking off the propellers, and that special tools are needed. Does anyone know what tools?

Also, as far as the oil, can you pour in from the top, and burp the air out like other outdrives?

Thanks

Yes, it takes a couple special tools to do the job, you need the prop tools, and a fitting that screws into the drives drain fitting. This is not the same fitting as used on other types of drives. You also need to replace all the orings on the drain, fill, and vent screws.

You really need to be pulling that outdrive yearly to grease the coupler splines and check the alignment. You should also be putting grease on the 6 studs before they corrode and you can't get the drive off.

Hopefully not a thread hijack but as I have a DPS I self-service as well (except for greasing splines/alignment), where are the vent screws located and where are the 6 studs that need to be greased?

What are the special tools?

As for the fitting to fill, just use a hand pump to pump into the out drive?

I showed you a picture of the special tool. The pumps with the typical end that comes on them screws into the fitting pictured.

I guess I was talking about the tools to get the props off too. Thanks

Im sure its a silly question, I assume the male end goes in the outdrive? What do you guys use in the female end to attach to a pump hose? ITs a 3/8x16 nc thread best I can figure. Thanks
