Hi!
I have tried to search the forum but diden`t find anything so ihope i dident miss a topic.
My friend has a newly bought boat with twin 5.7 MPI engines and hes pretty sure its DPE sterndrives they are from 03.
when they was about to leave after been at a beach he had accidently knocked the throttle a bit forward putting hes left engine in higher RPM
when he then put his gear lever in forward gear ther was ofcours a big CLONK and then the engine only reved without beeing able to get it in gear again. He turned the engine of and limped home using the other engine. With the all gathered experience here, any good suggestion to what have happend ?
He cursed the dual lever system ( one for throttle and one for gear) so muched he sounded like he had tourettes.

Check the shift linkage first. The VP drives are pretty stout

There is a "drive saver" coupler that connects the upper and lower shafts. It's designed to break in situations like this.

Thanks a mil for quick answers :)
muc is it as easy to split lower and upper part of the drive like it is on mercruiser or is that part "deeper" inside the drive ?

volvos are a bit easier to split. you should only need the o-ring between the trans and the exhaust housing (mid section)

Hi :)
The Volvo Penta Online Store is only accessible to visitors located in the United States**. Please contact your local dealer for information concerning Genuine Volvo Penta parts
Got this response :/

Techno is right. Volvopentastore.com is restricted to USA located customers only per agreement between iBoats and VP.

Since Techno is located in Sweden, an EU based VP site should work.

Just yesterday someone was attempting to pull a houseboat in a slip. I heard the engine rev to max rpms then heard a KAPOW! Boat went floating by till a runabout came and hooked on to it. I'm assuming he had the separate throttle and gear selectors. Never really understood that setup....

Thank you all for the help!
I solved the country issu already ;)
im gonna look at the sterndrive today.
But that setup with seperate throttle and gear selectors are so stupid. But they are boosting VP parts income lol
