I am rebuilding a 1800 SS for my son. it is a hull I got from a guy who was on this site a couple years ago..i stripped it and replaced all suspect rivets. then set it aside because I got a Bigger hull. and then a bigger hull than that one on and on(another story)!.... well my 180 was missing a LOT of stuff, because the previous owner had stripped it to rebuild a second hull he had .and he was going to haul the donor boat to the scrap yard that's when I got itt.....sooo now I am deep into the rebuild for my son and I need parts... mainly a windshield and some interior trim parts...so I found this ad: https://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/boa/6101173018.html

but told the guy I cant pay the 1200 as I only need a parts boat.... so conceded that $800 was ok.. I figured id flip the trailer and motor ...and use as much as I could of the rest for my rebuild. well when I got there this boat was ROUGH....terrible condition..and the seller was a a classic car salesman and a half! ha ha...GREAT HULL, replace the floor and you got a $3000 boat! ha ha ha......tires were flat... motor is a 70s....console had fallen out.... center section of windshield was missing...all the wood was in advanced decay!.....YUK.... I told him I didn't even want it..... he said youre here just buy it....give me something.... I went to the local tractor supply and bought a tire and rim and a receiver with a 2" and a 1-7/8" ball, and a new hitch pin. $90... and went back and gave him $300 for the boat, trailer and motor combo... and I told myself...I don't know why im doing it.... then he gives me paper work with someone elese name !! ha ha ha...

and the hits keep coming folks!!!!...

I guess he recently bought the boat and found it too much.. and so there is a name on the registrations as being sold to a Fourth party!! and then crossed out.....I told him no deal... its not yours legally... luckily the name on the paperwork was a guy who lived 15 minutes away...we went there and the guy signed a bill of sale to me!!..... so now I can register the boat and trailer...IF I WANT TO.... that is...

Well Done Bob! Motor and controls alone can fetch that much. Definitely not a 70's motor with VRO.

That engine is an '88 I believe. Those big twins are pretty great engines.

the model # looked strange...didn't look like it had enough letters to be after 1983....but I guess they left off the last digit that is some form a production code usually

E40ELCD...... in the model loo k up there is a letter after the D..... but not on the motor tag!

I don't think that the windshield ever had a center section, My 72 had a home made center, I believe 72 and prior it was an option.

ha... I was blindsided...... the ad for the boat said 17 foter and I guess I just figured it was an 18 since they ddint make a 17.... I was off ..its a 16 footer..... I wasn't paying attention to the over all size of the boat... actually I was thinking it was just too rough to bother with for $800..... so I doubt ill get to use much off the boat......I guess Ill just move it on down the line.....rather than cannibalize it and make it TOTALLY undesireable for the next guy !.....it looks like the windshield is a tad narrow for the 18 anyway...... and dozer...the drivers side window frame has a row of what looks like screw holes down the inside edge...as if there might have been a hinge and another pieces of glass...the passenger side does not have those holes! NOTE TO SELF: pay attention next time!!!

Have you started a thread on the new build for your boy and I missed it?

That is one nasty neglected SS you found, it needs pretty much everything and I don't know how well half the rated HP would do on it either. That Rude is worth some cash though nice score.

You should've known that some guys over estimate the length of certain objects and boats are one of those. :heh:

It would make a great stripped-down tiller conversion. 40hp would be fine for that on a 16' hull as a lake camp boat.

you know from my bedroom window , I look out at that boat and it looks sweet...if you don't notice the cascading dash fronts!!!!! ha ha......but do I wish it was an 18....dag nabbit!!!!!!!!!!!!....I need parts!. Id hate to send my 18 to my son with no windshields...then his wife would never go out on the lake with him!! now Im actually letting the THOUGHT of changing projects swim around in my head.....like how long would it take to get this 16 to the point I have the 18??? because I have 100% of the boats parts I need! on the 16... I think id just implant 2 foot it is...onto my son! ha ha... Lake Ontario can get ugly on the American side!!......

there's plenty of freeboard on her for the Hudson there Bob! Added bonus: ability to launch at low tide just about anywhere & squeak under those train bridges at high-tide

oh there someone who knows where to go!!....my Lowe 2070 wouldn't go under those bridges, because of the windshield on the console!

I have a Bluefin.... that will be a my third duck boat...17 ft...that project is for NEXT summer!!

yeah as nasty as the Hudson can get in a wind against tide with a mountain on one side....... it isn't nearly as bad as Ontario can get!!......id just move that 16 footer on down the road.... last fall I picked up a Grumman 16 ft center console with a 50 hp on it for free!!! that's already got the floor ripped up...... that would make a nice little maneuverable boat for fishing and hunting... console is missing already....put a tiller on..... super light....maybe a 30 hp......
