Big Oil has a strong hold on the govt., via lobbies and political $$$. So do the environementalists.

End result - little domestic oil.

Hmmmmmmm, Mscher.

Why would big or SMALL Oil want the offshore drillin' and ANWAR restricted? Doesn't sound too logical to me. 'Course I only have a single functional brain cell, maybe ya can straighten out ol' Murky as to why Oil companies would lobby to restrict their supply of politically stable, relatively easy to acquire, (except fer the politics), domestic oil reserves????? With all the technolagy out there with computer controled fuel injection I don't see why they can't inject hydrogen straight in to the cynlinder like a diesl fireing it with a sparkplug. The only by product is oxygen and water and massive amounts of hp. Store it like propane. BUT I guess that won't happen as long as we keep putting oilmen in office. You know if I get hit with a tornado I can't increase my prices to cover my lose. And what happened to windfall profit taxes. A little more to think about. They { the government } wants all of us to be clones and drive electric cars. Try to buy a standard new car that will go past 90 mph. You never see the bad guys out running the cops because the cars now days are not fast enough. Guess the three that caused that { government, cops, and the insurance companys }....ANIMAL

Re: "Dragging Our Feet On Oil Production"

It's not a wild surprise that 3rd world and developing nations put more emphasis on oil production than we do.

What better way to raise low cost governmental cash than drilling and shipping oil (and other resources)?

A developed country will naturally put more emphasis on reducing demand, and creating wealth thru technology and innovation, rather than simply sticking a pipe in the ground.

Any increased emphasis on more drilling is at best a short term solution. Emphasis on tech and innovation, as well as renewable resource development is not only what we are doing, but what we should be doing

Agreed, but why deny the ability to develope the reserves as dim wit Dems do: PW2?

A developed country will naturally put more emphasis on reducing demand,

Translation: The modern Liberals know what is good fer the peons n' will pass laws or have Tyrants from the bench direct society in the direction they have chosen to go.

and creating wealth thru technology and innovation,

Yup, n' the libs used fancy high soundin' words to make themselves sound like they understand n' care, (it really impresses dim wits).

rather than simply sticking a pipe in the ground.

Yah, stickin' a DIRTY MEAN NASTY pipe in the GROUND is sooooooooooooooo mean spirited, prices may actually decline, n' our PETRO enemies like HUGO n' the boys may have some troubles, (the Loony Left doesn't want that). Remember Libs n' dim wit DEMS do not want any good news. Danny Glover, Harry Belefonte, n Cindy Shehan n' most of Hollywierd wouldn' like that ya know.

Any increased emphasis on more drilling is at best a short term solution.

Yah right, n' we need to increase taxes to PAY DOWN THE DEBT: right? I have a bridge fer sale, (still standing) especially to anyone who accepts this last lil' gem.

Emphasis (buzz word fer corntrol) on tech and innovation, (if the ends sound appealin' the means are justified: dim wit), as well as renewable resource development, (sounds Kool eh), is not only what we are doing, but what we should be doing

Note: we need to accept the corntrol from the Libs Dems n' dim wits 'cause it fer our own good. I hope I'm not allone in my reaction here. IF SO: so be it.

A lil' lesson in econ 101: more supply = lower prices, restricted supply, (no matter how noble the goal) = higher prices and more power to Hugo Chavez n' Vlad Putin n' our Iranian buds. PW2 has done a masterfull job of 'splainin' why we should allow Libs n' Dems to deny the ultiization of our own resources n' force prices higher. Now you decide: IS THAT RATIONAL? I fer one: think not, but I only have one functional brain cell. You guys may just want high prices so ya can whine about 'em, n cheer Hillary on to crush our domestic oil industry. That brings up the ol' nagin' question: IS LIBERALISM A MENTAL DISORDER? Sorry: Officer Olson! Me = bad VERY BAD, JR

I'm surprised PW2 didn't suggest raising petro taxes to fund more welfare for illegal immigrants.

IMO, they may not even care to drill off of the coast and it's the environmentalist's that fight for the drilling restrictions.

It could just be more profitable to buy a supertanker of crude from high volume foreign oil wells, than to fight to drill here.

There are hundreds of oil wells in the west, (Dakotas, Montana Wyoming)that were drilled in the late 70's and early 80's, that hit oil.

When prices dropped in the 80's, they were capped, stopped paying royalties and have been that way since.

Presumably, the oil companies know the best place to get product.

Hmmmmm, seems illogical ta me. If yer an oil company you'd think you'd want more supply. (Only one brain cell).

and it's the environmentalist's that fight for the drilling restrictions.

Yah, that's true: Mscher. That said: environmentalists generally luv n' support corntrol freak DEMS, (ya know like the luvable Baffoon: Algore)! N' Dems seem ta luv anything that hurts America: like high oil prices. They think the high oil prices will be blamed on Exxon n' Haliburton n' those mean Republicans. N' the dim wit Dems will "take all those oil profits" n' grow Nanny Gubmint ta screw up more things so we all give up n' become ya know: VICTIMS n' vote fer more dim wit Dems. Real simple if ya think fer a nano second.

It could just be more profitable to buy a supertanker of crude from high volume foreign oil wells, than to fight to drill here.

BINGO, That is the net effect: Mscher. More power fer Hugo!!! N' higher prices o' course!! :D:D

There are hundreds of oil wells in the west, (Dakotas, Montana Wyoming)that were drilled in the late 70's and early 80's, that hit oil.

Hmmmmmm, n' those mean oil companies would not want ta ever make money at these prices, Right?????? Hmmmmmmmm, sounds suspicious ta a guy with only one brain cell. I guess havin' one functional brain cell that understands bidness is me problem.

When prices dropped in the 80's, they were capped, stopped paying royalties and have been that way since.

Hmmmmmmm, I say.

Presumably, the oil companies know the best place to get product.

OH me bad! I thought Libs n' dim wits knew!!! That's why they restrict DOMESTIC SUPPLY is it not????? Or is it to cause trouble fer America, so they can grow more powerfull? Hmmmmmm? Maybe LIBERALISM ISN'T A MENTAL DISORDER AFTER ALL? Is that what yer sayin' here? JR

Re: "Dragging Our Feet On Oil Production"

Until the worldwide price of fuels are all about the same, we will continue to import more crude than we pump domestically.
As long as there are profits to be made using imported crude, domestic reserves will not be used. And crude will always sell at a profit and the only other factor remains supply.

So the Grand Plan is to suck all the crude out of any other country you can for as long as you can. Then who is in control when all those current exporters of crude to the USA run out ? The middle east and Arab states become a third or fourth world again in short order.

We will be sitting pretty on top of under utilized known oil fields and who knows how much untapped oil fields domestically.

Re: "Dragging Our Feet On Oil Production"

I must agree, if you can tap your neighbors oil supply, do it as long as you can, then when they are dry, you are suddenly the big man on the block. I think they are smarter than we think they are.

OMR, we rarely differ in our views, but this time I must agree with the other side. It's not evil to stick a pipe in the ground, it's just temporary. Eventually, we will run out of oil. It may be 70 years down the road, but we will. The increase of supply now would be like increasing the amount of painkillers you give a dying person, it feels good in the short term, but long term, the results are the same.

Pouring money into R & D for alternate sources of energy is fantastic, in my opinion. However, we must be smart with this. Increasing the price of food to fuel our tanks isn't the answer.

Hey Waterinthefuel!! Bidness, a world wide commodity bidness like the oil bidness is just not as simple as Jeeperman n' me Bro would have ya believe. Gravity does exist. If a cornsumer of oil can buy a bunch in Timbuk two fer X that cornsumer would not buy fer 2x X unless the transportation costs or political risks et al were x.

Jeeperman's argument is upside down. So is Bro Haut's. The Northslope is now running down after 30 years of production, (the ol' pipe in the ground is temporary: YAHSUREYABETCHA!!!!). ANWAR is prolly larger.

As Enron showed all of us a shortage at the right time can exponentially move the price of 'lectricity; oil works the same way. IF IRRATIONAL HATE AMERICA FIRST Liberals n' dim wit DEMS effectively restrict the worlds largest cornsumer nation from developing their own oil resources the WORLD DOES PAY ATTENTION. Shocking that bidness is like that: WITF!!!! :D

Since the dim wits stop the persuit of our own supplies the price is much higher then it would otherwise be. The real good part is they n' the MSM blame Exxon n' George Bush n' Cheney n' people dim wits n' geniuses alike actually believe the carp!!!!!! BTW: Gravity does work: no matter what me Bro Haut says!!!
:D:D:eek:

NO WAY WITF. Why was Enron able to run up the price of electricity? Think that one over please. Bidness does not work the way ya think it does.

Pouring money into R & D for alternate sources of energy is fantastic, in my opinion. However, we must be smart with this. Increasing the price of food to fuel our tanks isn't the answer.

But when ya FORCE people to do what the Socialists want, and bidness would not otherwise do what they want on their own; ya always get that kinda thing WITF! Sorry this dog wont hunt! Respectfully, JR
