Drain in bilge none for hull.

I have a 1966 Gulf Stream. I pulled the Mercruiser motor to have some work done. The front motor mount bolts pulled out from the floor. They were rusted and wet. I Removed some wood around the mount area down to the hull. I took some foam out around the area where I removed the wood. Water is comming into the area where I took the foam out??? There is only one drain for the bilge and none for the hull??? I bought the boat June of this year. The previous owner said that the boat was tilted up during storage. Apparently it wasn't covered to protect from rain. I really don't want to undergo any real major modifications that would include making another drain for the hull. I'm using a shop vac to remove the water and a blower to dry the moisture. Also I intend to keep a heat lamp on to try and further dry out the wet area. If any one has any suggestions that you may have to address this problem, please let me know. I don't have deep pockets, but I have lots of time. I really want to make this "New Old Boat" something I can use and enjoy.. Sorry for such a long note...Thanks

Don't know that boat but i'd guess the boat was stored with the bow too low to allow all the water to fully drain out the main drain

if the stringers are rotted and the foam is wet you are looking at a lot of work. do a search for wet foam and see what needs to be done.

Kind of what i was trying to say--
Never heard of the two being seperate

Sounds like he has a wet foam problem, I am kinda curious as to how he is going to install a hull drain, Thats not going to take care of his wet foam problem. even if he drilled three holes, I would tell him not to drill any more holes.

Thanks for the reply.. No I could only find one drain. The one drain is for the bilge. I put a flex line in the hole and it came up into the bilge. After having the bow up for several hours and the shop vac on, there is no water coming thru. I will leave the heat lamp on this evening and then the blower on tomorrow.. I will also check out other parts of the floor with my hole saw and see if there are any other wet spots.

Ya dude, don't drill any holes in the hull, that won't take care of it, hopefully the foam isn't sooo wet that it will never dry out, and if that is the case then there are guys here that know and have plenty experience with how to deal with wet foam. I can tell you one thing is for sure, you did the right thing to ask here on Iboats before you did anything!! Two thumbs up for that:D If I am not sure about anything I always ask first too, good job. keep this thread going and I am sure you will get all your answers that your looking for and the best way to deal with the wet foam. How did the foam get wet?? is it just wet from the cover being off during rain??

Thanks for the heads up and suggestions. No drilling any holes in floor..no drilling any drain holes. There wasn't any cover on the boat when I went to pick it up. Suspect rain water. The boat was raised up and the bilge plug was removed..But even with that ,some water could have come in from the worn out motor mount bolts???Maybe??? I will check out the forum for info. regarding problem. Thanks
