Drain LU f/ impeller change?

Is there any advantage or reason to drain the LU before working on the water pump. Seems like it wouldn't make a difference but since the manuals don't mention it one way or another I thought I should defer to the iboat experts. Thanks.

if you change the lower oil last fall like you should have before the first freeze, No, there is no advantage. if you didn't then drain it now, and hope for no water.

Yep, changed it last fall, although I did end up going out one last time so I may change it again too see if I picked up any water. The boat is garaged all winter so I should be OK either way. Thanks for the 'piece' of mind.
