Welcome to the "I Messed up by pulling that plug on the port side of my OMC" club. I'm sure you've read at least one or more threads on this subject and now know that the drive must be removed to re-secure the screw and why.

The fact that there's water inside is really insignificant at this point. You could drain the water via the 3 drain plugs, but any water will be free'd when you pull the drive anyway.

Use this as an opportunity to do the required maintenance while you have the drive off.

Man been there done that, I see there is another thread that some one else did it too. Bridar what three drain plugs are you talking about. I was told that all you have to do is lower the drive and all water will drain.

Just went through this myself, not to long ago. You will have to pull the drive off to get that screw back in there. It has a backing clip that holds it in place and probably has fallen down into the water jacket in the outdrive.

There are three screws on the outdrive that need to be removed to drain properly. Make sure you know the locations of these three screws before removing any! This one day will become a sticky, but no mod has listened yet.

This is the one you "DO NOT" want to remove. This is normally behind a sticker, but most the stickers are long gone on these outdrives. There are 3 other screws that do get removed, one on the port side, two on the starboard side. If you remove the outdrive, there is not a need to remove any of them.

Chriscraft254's pic shows the port drain plug.

The 2 starboard (water) drain plugs are shown below. Note the oil drain/fill plugs on the lower housing:

The manual for the cobra outdrive requires these plugs to be removed for proper winterizing.

The water will NOT drain correctly if you do not remove the water drain plugs.
They're easy to remove; you can remove all three, drain and replace them in less than 5 minutes. Why would you not want to remove them?

If you just pull the drive, which you should be doing annually anyway, there is no need to open those drains.

Ok thanks again. I should just run antifreeze through the system then I wouldn't have to worry about it.

Negative...those pockets get water in them just by the drive being in the water.

Ok thanks. This is the first OMC I've owned and things are a little different thats for sure. I saved the pictures for future reference. Thank God for forums like this, you can't get info like this any where else.
