draining bung

the previous ownes of the boat, managed to make the bung impossible to remove, (rounded off the square drive) so i cannot drain the boat, any idea's on getting it out??? can i unscrew the bit that holds the bung in place and then put new unit in altogether, is the any structural strength in this part????? sorry its a really poor description of the draining bung, its a 97 mariah if that helps?<br /><br /><br />thanks<br /><br />simon

can't you grab hold of it with a small pipe wrench or a pair of vice grips??<br /><br />I personally do not like the screw in drain plugs. Every one I've ever removed requires excessive effort. I'm always concerned that you will end up breaking loose or spinning the bung in the transom.<br /><br />I would look for a nylon or solid plastic pipe thread plug to replace the bronze one.
