Draining trim system!

Sometimes ya just need some help!

I have looked all through my manual on my engine.

1996 200HP, J200STLED.

I want to drain and refill the trim fluids it is very dark and smelly, (Probably the original). I have come to the conclution that the only way to drain it is to lift it all the way up, open the fill cap and slowly release the manual release valve. Problem with this is that the fluid will just run all over everything. I don't see a drain anywhere.

Am I on the right track?

You are right. It is messy. You may be able to syphon some out through the fill hole to cut down on the amount. Be aware that you won't get all of it even through the manual release, but it should help..

The tool you're looking for is called a fluid evacuator. If you know someone that repairs motorcycles, they're a must for replacing the fluid in pneumatic forks. It sounds like to do these units, you'd put a fitting in the fill hole and compress the hydraulic ram. If there's a fill & drain you'd evacuate through the top and fill through the bottom. Pretty handy little buggers.

Easier method is to remove the lower SS oil line, you can direct it easier into a container rather than the manual release valve.

Re: Draining trim system!

I have one of those pumps for brake bleeding, I bet that would work pretty good. Think I will do it twice to get a good purge.

Thanks for the help.
