Dremel Tool Measurement Warning!!!

After tonight I will never trust a measurement without checking it with a tape first. I have a Dremel Circle cutting tool, and I followed the directions to the 'T'. It said to put the needle exactly on the number for the inches that I want to cut. So .... I did exactly that!

Something started not to look right after 1/2 way through the cut, so I measured it and it came out to a 7 1/2 inch in diameter hole .... I wanted a 6 and this is what I put the little pivot needle on!

It's a good thing I only cut 1/4" deep for the first cut since I wanted to clear the gel coat without any flaws, and cut the wood second. So, now I have to go fill in the first cut with white gel coat.

All I wanted was for something to go smoothly on the first try! Doesn't look like it's in the cards for me. :D

So, take it from me. When using Chinese made equipment with a pre-measured tool always go back and measure with a tape before you cut. :p

Thirty couple years ago when our house was being built I came home from work and the builder was staring at a board and scratching his head. I asked what the problem was and he said that he had cut the board off twice and it was still too short. No chinese stuff there.

Measure once cut twice never seems to work as well as the other way around.

I did that with my Dremel once, on a Corian counter top no less.

Went back and read the instructions. Sure 'nuff right there in black & white (1-1/2" offset) from the guide edge!
