Im pretty sure I read about some guys going to jail here in N.C. for taking driftwood from a national wildlife refuge; I think they had been caught before. I think driftwood is beautiful and have pieces in my yard just to look at. Im currently trying to build a trellis out of it.

Only problem, when that dries out in about 6-8 months, it will be twice the size of a walnut.

Brought a stump home from the outer banks a couple of winters ago. It took two of us to put in the truck. A year later, roughly the size of a basketball

Cedar,sappy pineknots and some other woods don't shrink much at all and seem to last forever. I think stumps shrink alot because they are more porous than the wood of the trees they anchor. Almost all of my pieces have have come from fresh water though. I look for wood thats high and dry after being left by floods, now far from the water.
