Drilled exhaust

I just bought me a 1994 Ranger 374v bass boat with a 1994 Mercury 175 XRI Black Max. I have always liked hearing a wicked sounding out board motor so I thought about drilling my exhaust.

Just wondering if anyone has any pics they can post up to show me where to drill and what all is involved in doing this?

Check over at the "Scream and Fly" forum. They do that drystacking all the time.

That motor is not dry stacked, it has exhaust can removed and mid-section drilled Mod Vp style. To do this correctly you will have to remove the powerhead and lower unit, disassemble the exhaust plate, remove exhaust can and drill six 1/2" thru the midsection step thats above the cavation plate fin. Doing this reduces back pressure at mid range and WOT allow a few extra rpm. On certain boats(heavy) it will hurt hole shot and bottom end as exhuast is not exiting thru relief holes/slots in prop. I got a midsection thats drilled if you want a picture....

Yes if you can post up some pictures that would be great! Glad I checked on here. I thought it was just a matter of drilling 2 holes in the midsection and that was it.

Do you still have to remove to powerhead and midsection to install the Bobs exhaust kit? I am very good at mechanics when it comes to automobiles and rebuilding auto engines but outboards are new to me so I am trying to figure out something easy for me to do. haha
