Hello, when I bought my boat beginning of summer the drive oil resivoir was nearly at the fill line, now after about 20 hours of run time the resivior is only a quater full. What does this mean and should I keep it full all the time? Do I just add oil to the resivoir or does it go somewhere else first? I have a 1995 Mercruiser 5.7L. Thanks

Well thats alot of oil to be missing?

Problably have a slow leak. You need to check to see if the drive is water tight. I would think you would see water in the oil monitor bottle if it was leaking but I guess a better quesiton is how long does it actualyl take to use up / loose that much oil?

Id refill the bottle to the full line and keep an eye on it. It normal to see the level go a little low but not that low. My level in my bravo hasnt moved since refilled!

Mabe check your fill and vent scews to see they are tight!

Ok, I got it topped off and I'll monitor it more closley. If there were a slow leak where would I check? Also, where is the drain plug to drain the drive oil? If I didn't say before I have an Alpha 1 outdrive and a Mercruiser 5.7L inboard.

Keep an eye in the bilge for green gear lube rolling around. If the gear lube is leaking into the bellows area, it will wash the grease out of the gimbal bearing and ujoints (not good) and leak into the bilge area.

Don, I have the problem that you described, replaced the bottle with the new part number, slowed the problem a ton but still leaking, could it be where the hose that is attached to the resivoir goes, if so where is that?? 1991 Mirage Trovare 232....502 magnum ..... Bravo 1

Thanks, Hunter
