drive shaft bearings

hi everyone. thanks for all the help so far.<br /><br />I am replacing the seals in the bearing housing and have found the bearings have rust on them and are falling apart.<br /><br />Can the bearing be replaced without replacing the entire housing unit or is it one piece?<br /><br />If it can be replaced does anyone know what part numbers as i can only find the parts for the whole unit and its $65 <br /><br />motor is a 1980 115hp johnson. <br /><br />Cheers

We need a model number on this engine, but I believe the bearing housing you are talking about is only sold as an assembly. See if you can get a number off that bearing, and check with a bearing supplier. What shape is the drive shaft in, where that bearing rides?

We are talking about the bearing hsng. that sets right under the water pump...aren't we?<br /><br />If so, this is a pretty common housing and was used on several lower units. New, it'll cost around $75. But maybe a local shop has a spare from a junk unit.<br /><br />Sometimes you can get the bearing number off the bearing and go to place like NAPA and get a replacement. I believe the bearing used in the assembly is a Timkin. The number should be on the edge of the bearing, not sure if looking from top or bottom. RJ is right....that particular housing is sold as an assembly.

thanks for the advice. um to add to it do you know if the unit comes with seals or do i have to buy them also? so unit is housing/seals/bearings all in one for around $75?<br /><br />anyway thought i would answer everyones questions aswell.<br /><br />- the bearings are the ones in a unit under the water pump.<br /><br />- model number J115TLCSA and the driveshaft is in good condition suprisingly. no scuff marks or rust.
