drive shaft housing lower seal

1999 Gen 2 alpha 1 outdrive-
Split casing and noticed a puddle of gear oil on my water pump housing. The lower seals in the drive shaft housing are leaking. (Towards the end of the season I noticed a little oil coming from the weep holes).
Anyway, this looks like a difficult job to replace these seals as you need to pull everything from the housing. Anyone performed this operation yet? Any special tools ?
I think I will just bring the housing to my dealer and have them replace the seals. Looks like it may take someone with experience an hour or so.
Thanks much!

when you split the upper and lower oil will spill from the upper because the shaft from the lower is what keeps it sealed

the seal below the water pump is the only easy one to change after that it starts to require a bunch of tools

i just resealed my drive and it was not that hard BUT we have a night school here with all the tools and a teacher to keep you from doing anything to dumb the first time ;)

tommays

Well I suspect as I had the gear oil slowly coming thru the weep holes on the outdrive. I can only assume that was indeed the issue as the o ring between the housings was fine. That is the only other place it could come from.
You guys looking for more practice at night school?

see that black plastic housing at the bottom of the drive shaft in the above pic? carefully pry it out with 2 screw drivers or you can attempt the useless tool that merc has, buy the complete pump kit and it comes with a new seal housing with the seals already installed and the oring. I paint them with perfect seal (OD only) before I install them.
