I’ve got a 2011 15hp mercury that I need a new driveshaft for. I’ve tried doing some research and it seems the length for these can be confusing. Measuring from the top of my transom to the bottom plate where the LU begins, I get about a 14” measurement. My drive shaft however is about 23 1/2” long, and i’m not sure how to determine if i need a short, long, or XL shaft. I beleive i need a short shaft, but i saw somewhere that 20 inch shafts are considered “long shaft” and i just wanted to be sure before spending the couple hundred bucks. Any tips?

Yes this can be confusing.-----A boat with a 15" transom requires a motor deemed to be a " short shaft "------And a 20" transom is for a " long shaft motor.------It has really nothing to do with the actual length of the round shaft called the DRIVESHAFT !!!
