I’ve been waiting 14 ½ months to make this post.
We thought it would only take a couple months.
A couple years ago (2004) we started to notice different driving trends in our area.

This is the Truth, the Whole Truth and nothing but the Truth so help me G*d. Or I will put my right hand on the forehead of an Alien if you want me to. (You) provide the Alien and I’d prefer a Green as opposed to a Grey as I’ve heard the Grey’s can’t be trusted. ;)

I don’t see this in any other surrounding cities. Tacoma, Fife, Federal Way, Seattle, or south in Olympia etc.
Only here in Lakewood.

In 2004 we were amazed at how many red lights people just drove through!
So in January 2005 we decided to count the days before we did not see someone drive through a red light. And then I’d make this post.

What we did not count.
Anyone crossing the stop line with the Yellow light on. Even if it turned red the second he crossed it.
Anyone making a CA stop on a right hand turn.

The only thing we counted was when a vehicle ran trough a red light before getting to the stop line at an intersection.

Example: Night before last. When approaching an intersection the Yellow light comes on. I slow down and stop. I’m stopped at the red light, but the vehicle on my right hand side is Two car lengths behind me and Blows right through the red light..

As said before we thought it would be like 30 – 45 days. And we considered this bad!
Try 14 ½ months before not seeing this every day! From January 2005 to March 21st 2006!

WOW is all I can say!

Does this happen in your city?

No traffic lights in Whitt.

No traffic lights between The Hideout and the WalMart in Miserable Wells.

The last time I went to Weatherford I nearly got rear-ended at a traffic light because I put on the brakes when the light turned amber.

Guess it is happening everywhere. :(

I have a beautiful beach drive all the way in to work so a few lights don't really bother me. It give me more time to look out over the water. However, here on the island we say " Its a two boat ferry wait, you have to wait for at least 2 cars to go through after your light turns green, and it takes two days for news to hit the papers."

It's that way anywhere there are red lights.
People are in way too big a hurry anymore.

Like I tell people, if wherever I'm going ain't there when I get there, it wasn't worth going there anyway.

I can honestly say I only see people blowing the light about 5 times a year. Maybe 20 more if you count the drivers that should have stopped, but entered late on a yellow, knowing full well the light is turning red.

Hint for your driving safety: Drive a big old ugly rusty vehicle.
Wander back and forth in the lane, make sudden direction changes.
People will notice you and stay away.
Some guy on a cell phone may flip you off if you cause him to actually put one of his hands on the steering wheel, but he will get over it.

I actually ran a stop sign on Saturday, never saw it.
Haven't seen a stop sign on a bridge in a long time.
It was hidden in plain view. :D

It happens in Seattle all of the time, like not even close to anything resembling green....
More importantly,
I was down in Puyallup a week ago doing a new liquor store on Meridian S.....
It was the largest one I have seen in this state.....
Must be an awful lot of drunks down that way....
Maybe Lakewoood needs one that big so everyone can stay in town & not have to rush to the liquor store in the next town ;) :p :p :D ......JK

Same here in the Cape. Not a day goes by that I don't see someone running a red light, this is the worst place that I ever seen in that respect. Guy almost got me last week, Light turned green for me, I looked both ways as I always do here, two cars from the right went flying right through their red light. I proceded and just cleared the center line when I see a guy comming fast from the right, passed right behind me and stopped in the center of the intersection, I still don't know how he missed me. I looked in the mirror and he was backing up. scared the living you know what out of me. It's not the older folks here, it's the young ones that are always in a hurry. Saw two last night, light turned red and they blew right through.

Yeah. Those cameras are taking hold here. In one town they caught the same guy running the same light four times in 2 weeks.

He needs to get T-boned by a semi.

Not a problem over here.
We have enforcement cameras mounted on the lights, you jump a red you get a £60.00 fine and 3 points on your licence.

Re: Driving in your city? Cant be that bad all over?

My sister had her van totalled by an armored car that ran a red. Since on one stopped to give information, it was her word against the two armored car employees. She got the pleasure of paying for a new vehicle.

DFW is an odd area for red light running. The west side(Ft Worth) it isnt very bad. The farther east you go, the worse it gets...

Thanks for the replies.
I hadn't expected it to be about the same around the country. I shouldn't have been surprised but I was.
Not a big fan of Big Brother but I'm wondering if traffic light camera's wouldn't be a good idea here also.
At the same time when stop lights go out at an intersection around here people seem to know the rules and are very courteous.
Go figure.
