Dropped piston ring

I have a 2000 V6 150 hp saltwater Mercury that dropped a ring on one cylinder. The cylinder is really bad, picked up corner of intake and as well deep scouring. What can I do to get this motor back up and going? Can you replace one cylider in this motor? All the other cylinders are good, all read 115-120 on compression test.

welcome to iboats i am doing exactly the same as you and just doing one piston you might have to bore it and get a slightly larger piston but the answer to your question is yes... im sure the more knowledgeble will also be along shortly

Whatever you do, before you refire the engine after the rebuild, make sure you know what caused the initial failure. Fixing the cylinder does not fix the cause. It fixes the effect. Lean mixture on that cylinder prehaps????

A steel sleeved engine can be bored oversize in one hole. It's done often. A chrome or nicasil bore can be bored and steel sleeved back to stock. Takes different rings in that one hole. Again, done often.

Have a pro do it. It's expensive, and if not done right very short lived. Also, as stated before, be sure you understand why it burned down to start with. A dirty carb, or a leaking carb gasket is the usual cause. Likewise, a partially plugged injector can cause it. Believe it or not, too much oil in the fuel can also cause it, but usually on more than one cylinder.
